Re: Pleasanton weather?

It was my first trip to Pleasanton, and I have to say I was impressed with how much shade there was all over the venue. I especially like the competition circle being in the shade. It was still...

Re: Learning To Use a Traditional (round) Mouthpeice?

Not much to learn, just do it until you strengthen the different muscles. The shrink tubing can help, but it's just a matter of fighting through the frustration to build up the endurance.

Re: Early E

First, make sure your reeds are set up properly. If you're often getting an early E your drones may be taking too much air for the strength of the chanter reed.

Second, know your pipes. Know...

Re: Client's Request to Which you Just Say No!!

Or perhaps they recognize that many straight people don't feel comfortable in a gay bar, and they wanted to make sure they had someone who wouldn't flip out at what he/she witnessed.

Re: Client's Request to Which you Just Say No!!

There's a few people I know who would really have enjoyed doing this one. Too bad they didn't call me.

I got a Zoom H2 last fall, and it's been fantastic. Easy to use, good sound quality, highly recommended.

Re: Rubber glove bagpipe

I don't think a leather glove would have enough stretch to force the air back out. You'd have to, I don't know, put it under your arm and squeeze it or something.

Re: Looking for Band in Western PA

I know it's a little far from you, but Macdonald Pipe Band in Pittsburgh is my strong recommendation. I played with them for three years and they are some great folks. There are teenagers and...

Pipetech Cool Backpack

Anyone have any experience with this case (http://www.qualitybagpipes.com/pipetech_cool_backpack)? It's got a lot of stuff that appeals to me, but in the photos it looks quite huge. I'd appreciate...

Re: Anybody used a Lee reed for solos?

I ordered a trio of Lee reeds not long after they hit the market. I couldn't get any of them to go in my ABW Naill chanter, so at the moment they're just taking up space in my reed box. The pitch was...

Piping while wearing a jacket

I usually play solo contests wearing only a shirt and tie, and band contests with a vest as required by the uniform. No problems, I'm able to play quite comfortably in both for long periods at a...

Re: Piobaireachd and Its Use as Concert Material

It was the 78th Frasers playing Flame of Wrath on their CD of the same name that first turned me on to piobaireachd. It's still one of my favorite tunes.

Bagpipe lamp

I just completed a bagpipe table lamp (http://keydetpiper.com/2012/06/02/diy-project-bagpipe-lamp) assembled from spare pipe parts. Easy, cheap, and kind of cool. This was my first attempt at a...

Re: Tuning or competing wearing earplugs

I've also developed a high-pitched ringing in my ears (worse in the left) sometime during my piping career, and I wear custom musicians earplugs whenever I play. I don't usually have trouble tuning....

Re: Piobaireachd High G sound

A good piobaireachd high G is not something I can tell you how to achieve. I get something resembling a decent piob high G about 50% of the time, and I wish I could tell you how that happens. I can...

Re: Ontario Solo Piping Competition

Re: Can it be happy and up beat?

There are tunes that have a different feel, but for me it took a lot of listening before I could start to distinguish a lot of it. Marches and battle tunes are often driving, sometimes fierce, and...
