Hemping stock joints

Many years ago it was conveyed to me to NOT hemp beyond the combed section on stock joints; the combing doesn't extend all the way down the joint, just like it doesn't extend all the way to the top....

Re: "Wrongly" arranged and misprinted tunes

Well, I've put my recordings where my mouth is and finally got around to recording David Ross of Rosehall with the changes mentioned. I hope I did it justice!

Re: Celticpipes PDF, cutting off right margin

Having never used Celticpipes, is the default page size set to something other than what youíre expecting? Either in the format of the tunepage or in the print dialog?

Re: Is it worth my while to get smallpipes?

OMG, Iíve been only managing to play every 3 days or so and itís caught up to me. Ugh! While playing them regularly (but not frequently, you might say), Iíve gotten out of shape!

Re: Soliciting input on drone sounds

Nice to hear from you John, been a while!

I thought I might mention that the recorder is about 6 ft off the ground, but also only 6 ft away, so it's a pretty direct shot right into the microphone,...

Re: Soliciting input on drone sounds

I've got a couple cane basses laying around but not that patience to get/keep them going in <20% humidity. I was going to replace the Ackland bass with another big synthetic (X-TREME, Kinnaird) but...

Re: 2020 setup?

I love em in my Kyos, just a blast. Have used Ezee/Kinnaird, X-TREME, and Redwood/Kinnaird in the past but the Ackland are just perfect. Another guy here in Lubbock sends me a text when he plays...

Re: Soliciting input on drone sounds

Youíre welcome. I wanted to point out that itís the same chanter in every recording. Presumably, ostensibly, etc. the only variable is the drone reeds.

Re: Soliciting input on drone sounds

I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to chime in; it is much appreciated.

As you might guess the sound samples are related to my consulting with Terry Ackland and his drone reeds. They...

Soliciting input on drone sounds

If you could indulge me and tell me what you think of these two recordings of drone sounds. What you like, what you don't like about the sound (not the recording or the shoddy playing  ). They...

Pipe Band MSRHJ

Let's make the pipe band MSR competition more interesting by making it a MSRHJ.

Hornpipes and Jigs with *swing* of course. Played straight has its merits, but not here. :thumb:

Re: Is it worth my while to get smallpipes?

Not as a replacement, no. The pressure is much too low. A practice chanter is sufficient to keep your fingers going. Maybe hook it up as a goose? Maybe check out the bagpipe mute product?

Re: Tuning-Middle Tenor First?

How many drones are going during this, all 3?

Middle tenor and bass on, then activate outside tenor and tune?

Re: Technique vs. Speed

There was/is a really great YouTube video of a violinist showing how he would learn passages that were technically difficult to play at tempo. It wasnít just picking out a sequence of notes to play...

Assuming you're using synthetic drone reeds, because of the variability in how they are made and intended to work, it would help to know what brand of reed it is.

It is not normal to have to...
