Re: Bannatyne Dri Flo

I use the Dri Flo system and I do have the hose running from the blowpipe to take air to the back of the bag. It seems to work better that way.

I used to use the tube and bottle and when my son's...

Re: World's Livestream for Friday

Yes, I see the BBC link for Saturday as well but nothing on the NPC website or Livestream.

As I understand it, the RSPBA rule says that, if there are less than 18 bands, then it's the total of all...

World's Livestream for Friday

Has anyone seen any info on a live stream for the Friday contests? Usually Inner Ear hosts it on Livestream but I don't see anything scheduled.

Cheers,

Re: Jim McGillivray’s AURORA JM Chanter

Patrick, as far as finger spacing, how do you feel the Aurora compares to the Kyo?

Re: Dominant Naill drones - which reeds to use?

My son plays Ezee tenors and an original Kinnaird bass and it sounds great. The Cannings are definitely more mellow to my ears than the Ezees so if you're finding them out of balance to the chanter,...

Re: Would you put an MCS in your child's first set?

I would avoid an MCS if they're his first pipes. It will be a while before he's playing them long enough (or well enough for that matter) for the MCS to be worth the fuss. It's a complicated enough...

Re: Using a Little Mac blowstick valve on smallpipes

I used to own a set of smallpipes and I installed a Beck valve in the bottom of the blowpipe stock. It worked great, has a universal fit, and acts as a spit trap as well.

Re: Drone spacing for kids

My eldest son started on the pipes at 9 and I found that, with drones regularly spaced, they were falling off his shoulders and he was constantly wrestling with them to keep them in place. I...

Re: Switching to a Ross suede bag?

I've been playing a Red Ross for going on 2 years now and it is and always has been super air tight. The moisture control on it has been very, very good. I play with a Moose valve and a tube and...

Re: Most comfortable chanter you've played?

What is the pitch on the Colin Kyo as compared to the Peter Henderson solo chanter? Is it in the 478 - 481 range?

I'm playing the Kron Medalist and, while I like the tone and comfort, it...

Re: Lee and Son Bagpipe 2017

I have an opinion but it's very, very biased as my son takes lessons from both Jack and Andrew Lee.

I've heard Jack play his pipes and they have a beautiful, ringing presence. The sound is beyond...

Re: Blowing drone reed outwith the pipes

I believe the advice is given because, if you're testing the reed for strength (i.e. at what pressure does it shut off) blowing it 'outwith' the drones doesn't tell you too much.

Re: Kinnaird easy / medium strength comparison question

I've tried both and they sound the same to me.

I believe the only difference is how much the reed blades are pre-set (i.e. the very slight bend in the reeds).

The difference would be that, if...

Not to muddy the waters with so many different answers, but I've been using MacPhee reeds in my Medalist, and it's the same vintage as yours.

I read once on this forum from Jim McGillvray and I...

Re: Suggestions for a tuner

I would add that it's vital that you make sure all your reeds are stable. Mouth blow them, varying the pressure from hard to soft. If they waiver a lot in sound, their likely unstable. Trying...
