Re: Bottom zipper vs. side zipper

I've played both and prefer the bottom zipper simply because I had a bag where the side zipper would dig into my arm a little bit. Other than that, I can think of no pro or con to differentiate...

Re: Pakistani bagpipes rebuild begins

JackieL, it sounds like you've already made the right decision and follow the advice here. And kudos for doing so!

I started on Pakistani pipes (and Pakistani practice chanter) and had a terrible...

Re: New Gannaway leaking neck?

I always use a water and dishsoap mix to find leaks. It helps immensely. Use a cloth to dab some all around the blowstick stock area and look for the dreaded little bubbles.

Re: Canmore, Bannatyne, or Gannaway?

I went from a Bannatyne synthetic to a Gannaway, then to a Bannatyne hybrid. I loved the Gannaway but figured I'd try the hybrid after the Gannaway died. The hybrid is easy to maintain, that is - I...

Re: Dating Mccallum pipes

Same here, only mine are a couple years newer. As others have said, contact McCallum. They have wonderful customer service!

Re: Reed Wrangler mouthpiece

I shortened mine just a bit. Do a little at a time and don't be in a rush. You can't put back on what's been taken off!

Re: Reed Wrangler mouthpiece

I've had mine for years and love it. The only issue I had was some moisture (spit) making it through the metal sleeve on the mouthpiece. This only happened during long piping sessions. After about...

Re: Chanter Protection

I've seen some people make a chanter case out of PVC pipe. I just use pipe insulation from the plumbing dept at the hardware store. Something like this: ...

Re: My First Large Scale Gig

How exciting! Congrats to your son! What a gift to play for his ceremony.

A couple of quick tips:

"Marching" is really just walking to the beat. Don't let the term marching freak you out....

Re: DegerPipes first generation issue

Michael, I'm just getting caught up on the saga of your Deger. Seems like you've had a bit of an adventure with this. Which wires were pulled out by your Dad? Just the battery wires?

By the...

Re: DegerPipes first generation issue

Right. The design certainly makes servicing the chanter difficult. I didn't visually confirm that the power leads connect to the power switch contacts, but they must in order for the circuit to...

Re: DegerPipes first generation issue

Your best bet is to find an electronics technician and they'll know exactly what to do. Or find someone who almost qualifies, but is handy with soldering, and show them this page.

I apologize for...

Re: DegerPipes first generation issue

Out of curiosity I just looked at shipping rates from Alma to Germany. Holy moly! I've had things shipped from Scotland and England before and it's not bad, but apparently Germany is more expensive...

Re: Gannaway Bag #?

My Gannaway # is 0707. It lasted a good many years, but after regluing the zipper and finding leaks again, I had to let it go.

I just replaced it with a Bannatyne hybrid Willie McCallum size. ...

Re: Newer set of pipes, tenor tops don't match well (visually)

How do the tenor tops look compared to the bass top? Is the bass just like one of the tenors, or different from both?

Assuming the same person made all the pieces, generally they would all look...

Re: Piping on the space station

I wondered the same thing when I first read it. But I've learned to take articles/interviews with a grain of salt. Too many times, through editing and the pick and choose process of what goes into...

Re: Almost missed it!

Ugh, yeah. It was the squeaks that were the worst. They weren't the "struck in too hard and sounded the chanter" type. They were more like "3rd grader learning clarinet" type.

Regretfully, I...

Almost missed it!

I've read some stories here from pipers who had similar situations. I've had plenty of mess-ups, goofs, dum dums, but this was the first time I had a very real sense that I was going to leave...
