Re: The MacPherson Sound

It probably is.
If I'm not mistaken Scott is the son of Douglas his wife (Jan Hannah)
And Douglas has a new workshop in Bulgaria, so he's probably playing them there.

Re: MacPherson Pipes and Reeds

When I got my pipes from Doug almost 18 months ago I've sent him some e-mails regarding drone reeds. He told me there wasn't one particular set of reeds he recommended with his pipes, but that he had...

Re: Wooden Projecting Mounts?

It isn't usual, but I'm pretty sure I've seen blackwood pipes with blackwood mounts turned from one piece of wood, so no loose mounts screwed/glued on. And those were full size mounts.

Re: Wooden Projecting Mounts?

I have a set of Douglas MacPherson's with Satin wood mounts with a rounded shape, I really love the look of it.

Re: Pipe bag covers and cords

I have 35 years old white wool cords that came from my dad's pipes.
They turned a little bit yellow, but that's to expect after 35 years, but there are no stains on it.

Re: Douglas MacPherson Practice Chanter

I got mine with a Warnock reed, and it sounded good, but I like it better with a gibson reed, gives it more power.
I have a TruTon PC reed for it when I need to play really quietly and it's still in...

Re: Douglas MacPherson Practice Chanter

I really love my D MacPherson long PC.
It's a beautiful ABW chanter with satinwood sole and an engraved aluminium ferrule.
It sounds really great and full, not this toy-like as some other PC's....

Re: Lesson 6... :)

Well I really love my D MacPherson pipes, but I think they are a bit on the heavy side.
But about the nice engravings only on silver, I've got a magnificent half set engraved aluminium on my pipes...

Re: Long or standard length PC?

IIRC it has been said before, but the spacing of standard lenght or long PC's are almost identical. Here an example with my D. MacPherson long PC and a Pakistani standard lenght:

Re: New plastic chanter reed

I got a response from Malcolm. He said the problem is probably the reed. He deliberately makes them with a slightly higher high G so it could be taped, so he's sure it isn't flat.
He's going to send...

I received mine last week. Strength 17.
The sound is really good and the 17 strength corresponds with a cane medium reed.
The only problem I have is the tuning. I've tried several chanters (Colin...

Since I'm a sound technician in a theatre, I use a decibel metre on a regular basis. I'll try to measure my pipes with them.
