Re: Best reeds for a Naill poly chanter

I found that Shepherd reeds were a little tricky to set up in both my poly and blackwood Naill chanters. I switched them to Colin MacLellans reeds and they came in perfectly with just a tiny touch of...

Re: How many sets do you own?

I have six sets although I will be looking to part with one of them in the near future.

1. Charles McGoldrick African B/wood with brass and 'Green Goblin' mounts.
2. Charles McGoldrick Mopane...

Re: Aurora "Scotch Lad" plastic assembly model

I have to say that is one of the most accurate and good looking models of a piper I have ever seen although the actual pipes still look a bit 'wonky'. Might I ask what size it is? I think I would be...

Re: I hate my bagpipes

I think you misunderstand what I mean by 'Magic of a sort' Gisahag. I did not mean some sort of ethereal, supernatural 'magic' but simply that, as I qualified, there are so many variables in all...

Re: I LOVE my bagpipes

Glad you like them. I have a 'normal' set of modern Hendersons as well if I ever find myself having to fit in with other pipers but, for personal use I wouldn't swap either of my two sets of...

Re: I LOVE my bagpipes

I have four 'keeper' sets but, in particular, I have two 'will never part with and love 'em to death' sets.

My absolute number one set was made for me by Charles MacGoldrick in Northern Ireland...

Re: I hate my bagpipes

There is 'magic' of a sort in everything. The creation of anything be it a musical instrument, a car or even a computer, has so many variables in the materials and tolerances that there will be some...

Re: Bagpipes in a silent decline?

Unfortunately, now I have been here for some time, I know that there are only two other adult pipers in the town. One is in his sixties and doesn't want to play in public and the other, who was a...

Re: Bagpipes in a silent decline?

When I was a youngster the community based bands were much more common in villages, towns and cities in Scotland. Even the village I live in now where there have never been more than around 400 souls...

Re: Bagpipes in a silent decline?

Right first I will strap on my body armour and steel helmet before I make the statement below. I am sure many will not agree with me or won't want to be able to agree with me and I would prefer it...

Re: Drone Reed Assistance

In my setup I am using a set of Canning Blues with a Naill blackwood solo chanter. In order to get the Canning tenors down to the right pitch with the drone tops just above the slides I had to lower...

Re: PM on the rampage!

I have to admit that I would probably resort to something just as childish which would most likely amount to taking the PM's chanter off him as a replacement for mine prior to snapping all his drones...

Re: Forum activity levels

The issue of 'expert' versus 'blowhard' is a difficult one as there are, in all walks of life, many who may be well known and excellent self publicists (I am in no way aiming at anyone on this forum...

Re: Forum activity levels

I don't understand why the use of pseudonyms is an issue really as even a 'real' name can be just as fake. Personally, after many years of using the internet and being aware of how incredibly easily...

Re: Thoughts on bottle traps?

Ah thank you, I think I have a better grip on the idea now. I will need to give some consideration to trying one out. I take it they don't restrict air flow much?

Re: Thoughts on bottle traps?

What exactly is a Trap Dri? Looking at images online I gather it is the black kind of spool shaped thing inside the plastic tube but I can't find anything to explain how it works.

Re: Thoughts on bottle traps?

What I was wondering was if it might actually be better altogether to not collect the moisture within the bag and to simply allow the bag to do the work. I don't know whether this would be true of...

Thoughts on bottle traps?

Hi all,

I have been using canmore hybrids on all my pipes of late and, for the first time ever really I am using basic moisture control in the form of the supplied bottle traps. It struck me...

Re: Forum activity levels

It is a bit of a ghost town though I can't say I have found anywhere else online where there is any more traffic but maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.

Re: Narrow stocks and grometted bags

I considered the option of buying a new, ungrommeted bag for this set but, having an almost brand new Canmore grommeted hybrid bag here, it was easier and cheaper to spend a couple of pounds on the...

Re: Narrow stocks and grometted bags

Just a wee update, I bought some heatshrink tubing (50mm though I think it would have been easier if I had used a slightly smaller diameter) and can report that it worked very well on my stocks. I...

Re: Hemping joints.

I think the reasoning is that the unwaxed provides some 'spring' to the joint and swells with moisture for good sealing and the waxed hemp gives good grip and doesn't swell as much so I think the aim...
