Re: Cold weather playing

I figured you would want to slowly acclimate your pipes to the existing weather before any performance.

What I'd like to know is what is the best way to bring your pipes back in from the cold...

Re: Harmony Part for Amazing Grace

Great thoughts here. Thank you all for the leads and the sheet music ready to try. I had already been fooling around with potential harmonies. I really like the walk-up's and walk-downs used as...

Harmony Part for Amazing Grace

I've been looking all over the interweb for the second pipe part to Amazing Grace. I hear it all the time but can't seen to find it.

Anyone point me in the right direction?

Mucho Thanks!

Re: Ready for 1st Band Performance???

Very interesting idea. I'm wondering if you could just cut the cane back to the tip of a reed staple. What remains would still seat in the chanter and allow air flow. Not sure if it would make a...

Re: Bass drone shutting down during playing

So Sacramento....Are your drones back working? It took almost a week of fine adjusting the reeds (EZdrones) to get them to fire up properly. Interesting, before I was able to strike in at Bb 466....

Re: Bass drone shutting down during playing

I go back and forth between using all 3 drones or plugging one of the tenors. At this point I can play my better tone chanter reed and 2 drones or set it up with the lighter reed and 3 drones.

Re: Bass drone shutting down during playing

Interesting...Both my bass and tenor (only have one tenor drone hooked up) have gone bonkers in this warm weather. I'm in Sacramento too. They shut down early and I have to tap the top of the drone...

Re: Practice Chanter hertz

No one bothered to tell me my PC was a full octave below a real chanter. I knew it didn't sound anything like the recorded pipes I was listening to and trying to play. Then I tried playing my PC...

Re: Wet Blowing

My practice chanter was only good for about 20 minutes before it started gurgling and I needed to pull it apart and dry all the parts including the little donut sponge. I'm 60 but new to pipes.

Re: Chanter Reeds for Concert Pitch Bb Chanter

Please let me know what strength you selected and what you think once you play them. Did you get the elastic band too?

I have a Bb Dunbar chanter and could use a good source. I only have 2 reeds...

Re: How "soundproof" is a home really?

There are two within 10 minutes of my house. I wonder what the caretaker would say if I just showed up? I love the sound of pipes outside.

I might even put my second tenor drone back in!:willy:

Re: How "soundproof" is a home really?

My band mate built a full on soundproof room in his garage. With 2 guitar amps, a bass amp, full drum kit, and 3 vocal mics going at gig volume, you cannot hear the band from 10' outside the room. He...

Re: Well-known pipers who play easy reeds?

Yep. Definitely Dizzy.

I have one heavier reed. That reed got put in the "maybe in a few years" pocket in my case. After hearing from people here, I'm thinking it can go in the "give it to someone...

Re: Well-known pipers who play easy reeds?

I've observed a piper whose cheeks (and neck) expanded like Louis Armstrong blowing his horn. Others I've seen turn many shades of red. I was concerned one was going to pass out.

Maybe for some...

Re: How "soundproof" is a home really?

Great article Andrew. With the exception of the airport, I've tried many of these ideas. I love playing outdoors. The pipe sound is so different. M-F I play a few songs in the backyard at lunch. Most...

Re: Pipes, A Serious CommitmentÂ…The Grumbles of a Newbie

Jumping in with both feet, you are absolutely correct...the cost is very comparable. Pipes may even be cheaper. I have my Les Paul and tube amp. They were not cheap. That being said, it was not my...

Re: Woodland Celtic Games

Thank you for your helpful response. Most interesting point about the actual marching. Getting into position seems rather tense. I just assumed marching was a part of it as well. Good to know.

Re: Woodland Celtic Games

Not exactly what I said but it may take some time to zero in on the finer points of pipe band performance.

There were no 2s playing at this event. The one Grade 3 was tighter and required less...

Re: Pipes, A Serious Commitment…The Grumbles of a Newbie

Re: Pipes, A Serious CommitmentÂ…The Grumbles of a Newbie

I will check out Dojo.

Actually, there are multiple community bands in the area that offer intro courses for new players. They must have some loaner instruments because they often have fundraising...

Re: Pipes, A Serious CommitmentÂ…The Grumbles of a Newbie

That would be nice. In this area we have a few bands, the police/firefighters band of course, a city band, and one independent. There may be others but they do not show up with a Google search. Their...

Spinal Tap? Hmmm, maybe the Wicked Tinkers need to open their set coming out of pods!

Aaron, what was the second set of pipes you used Sunday? They sounded electronic. Did you just run the sound...
