Re: What are the best pipes for a new piper??

In my opinion, the question isn't which pipes are best for beginners, but how many times do you want to purchase a set? If you're serious about playing and sticking to it, buy the best set you can...

Re: Those WTF Moments

Following a funeral I played for, a woman walked up to me and said she much enjoyed my playing and my uniform and inquired if she might take my photo with her father. I said sure... The playing was...

Re: Learning Styles - Opinions Sought.

My approach is more toward your first example. And with new music, I usually have a student look at the music critcally and ask how many bars they need to learn. It always seems to surprise them...

Re: Anyone willing to boycott any post that asks if anyone is wiling to boycott?

If there has been anything useful in this thread, it's the realization from Don's post that Gaelic is simply English backward.... Who knew?

Re: Tuning Slide Inconsistency

Maybe this is too obvious.... If the chanter reed is pitching too sharp because of the weather issues, which you can't change, and making it difficult to tune the drones to it because of the pitch,...

Re: Appearance concerns for Competition bands

While the ideal would be for judging what one hears, if you show up looking as though you've slept in your trunk at the venue, I can't help but think that will "affect the hearing" of the one doing...

Re: What grade are you?

Oh....I get it.... Piping grade for competition. I misunderstood. BUT, l after all my education over the years, should I choose to return to school once again, I'll be in 22nd grade. :smokin:

Re: Moisture Control

I've used three different types:

1. Simple tube design to trap moisture. (had to be poured out at the end of a session)
2. Tube design with a bottle/sponge on the end.
3. Tube design but cloth...

Re: "Rant" in tune titles?

A "rant" is something experienced on Wednesday nights from our P/M if things are not going well.:smirk: If absent on Wednesday's, we can usually expect to receive one in the form of an email before...

Re: The most difficult instrument

My Pipe Major, I think, has stated it best. Whether or not he came up with the concept on his own is open to debate, but he has made the following comment:

Re: The most taboo question in piping!

Re: Which bag is best?

I play a hybrid. Synthetic interior with a hide covering. Best of both worlds in my opinion and they're easy to deal with. My first one was a Shepherd and I now play an Bannantyne. No problems at...
