When we pipers travel by air we tend to carry our pipes on board.
If you have a container of spare reeds and emergency repair items in your pipe case make sure you remove sharp items like scissors...

Sounds like you're a candidate for drone valves.
I've had good luck with K-Valves but like most drone valves you need a zippered bag to make the task of installing and servicing possible.
