Re: grade V mass band scores

I don't think this thread sounds like anyone's advocating "institutionalizing a lower standard." And as a beginning drummer who spent months on end being told I had to learn Massed Bands perfectly...

Re: Cross pollenation with Fife And Drums?

I heard a recording recently in which the pipers played with rope-tension drums. If I remember what the heck it was, I'll post it. (Maybe someone else remembers!)

Re: Kilpatrick/May snare carrier

Yeah, I just put the thing down on carpet, stood on it, and pulled till it bent outward just enough. Did the trick!

BTW, I tried the thing at rehearsal the other night. My back didn't even notice...

Re: Gillies

I have a pair from the early 1980s or so that I find comfortable enough, but I *love* Doc Martens of any kind. I checked the Doc Marten website but didn't find anything like a ghillie brogue... Saw ...

Re: Kilpatrick/May snare carrier

Thanks Tom! I'm not sure I get everything you did (I'm kind of visual when it comes to mechanical stuff and verbal about everything else), but I think I got it mounted and working now. I'll have to...

Re: Kilpatrick/May snare carrier

Yay! My JK carrier arrived the other day. Now if I could just figure out how to get my Premier to hang on it right. Anyone have pics so I can figure it out? *is dense*
thanks...

Re: Winter Steam 2009 Twin Peaks Pipe Band!!!

This is a *fantastic* thing you're all doing, and I'd be 100% there if I were going to Kansas City this weekend! Hope you all have fun, and please post an after-action report... Please?

Re: Fitness question

You mean I either have to do all that, or else get fat? Fine, I'll get fat. I might not live as long but I'll sure as hell have fun. :)

Re: Cross pollenation with Fife And Drums?

There are quite a few tunes I hope they never discover, staring with Itchy Fingers! </div></div>

Hi Drew. Too late.

Re: WINTER STORM

I wish.

There's another thread, actually, with quite a few people who said they're going. Of course they could all be pipers... I'm new here so what do I know.

Re: Kilpatrick/May snare carrier

Yes, I'm going just on pictures too--I wondered if any of the JK users have noticed this characteristic as well.

I agree--everything I've read/heard about the JK makes it sound like a dream and...

Re: Snare drumming

True--I didn't mean to sound like I think Cooperman drums suck or anything--they don't! I just meant for someone new to the hobby who wants a cheaper rope-tension drum, they could find one on eBay...

Re: Fitness question

Sell your pipes to buy running shoes? Holy crap, that'd be one expensive pair of shoes!

I'm not a piper, so whatever I say here probably isn't worth two cents, but I do fife. Before long parades,...

Re: Snare drumming

Check eBay. If you aren't in a hurry, keep looking on eBay for several months and get familiar with what's out there. Now and then a real nice one gets posted. (And some might fault me for it, but I...

Re: Kilpatrick/May snare carrier

May I ask, about the JK carrier, if the center of gravity shifts inward (toward the player) over the XL, Premier, or Pearl options?

I met a drummer this week who had a JK, and it looked to me...

Re: When establishing a band, finding drummers?

Agreed with all of this, especially the last part... but just want to remind people not to think of snare drummers as male by definition! :) (I realize you weren't implying that, James, but I just...

Hey Monk, I'd like to see the graphics too. Pretty please...? I bet Doug and Hugh won't mind.

Re: Best advice ever..

This advice was given to me for drumming but it works for all music-learning: when you're practicing and you make a mistake, play that measure over until you can play it three times in a row...

Re: WORLDS RESULTS

Knowing next to nothing about it, and not having read anyone else's posts on the subject, here are my (probably lame) picks.*

1--SFU
2--Shotts &amp; Dykehead
3--FMM
4--78th
5--City of Washington....
