Re: Rocket Drone Reeds Required

A set of Rocket Drone reeds just went up for sale on the "Pipe Band Pawn" FaceBook group. It's a closed group, so you may need to ask to join first.

Re: Awards

I'm not a competing piper, but whenever I get medals from running road races, I hang them on the Christmas tree. This means they get safely stored with the other tree ornaments, and get put "on...

Re: Learning online for drumming noobs

Please keep the updates coming!

I'm considering signing up for Rhythm Monster lessons. I'm a piper looking to build some drumming "street cred" by learning the snare. Figure it can't hurt to...

BlowPro Pressure Monitor

Has anyone tried using the BlowPro pressure monitor? Any thoughts?

Seems a little pricey to buy the sensor, but if it helps with steady blowing it may be worthwhile.

Re: Gift pipes - what would YOU do?

Perhaps the current owner of the pipes could make sure they pass to the daughter when he no longer needs them. He would be able to continue using the pipes which were given to him, knowing that they...

Re: Phones in Scotland

We were there last summer, and signed up for AT&T's International Hot Spot service (we have bundled services through AT&T, including cellular). Bottom line is that it was simply awful, and we wound...

Re: Legal to sell music already in the public domain?

I'm in the same boat as Steve. I hadn't heard about Jim McGillivray's site until this post started. After reading Clandyrile's post, I had to see what it was all about.

Once I saw the content,...

Re: What do you wish someone had told you when you started?

I wish someone had explained that a strike-in should be pat and then blow, (always in that order) earlier than they did.

So I've been playing for a little...

Re: Ack! I can't play my new presents!

I read this thread on Friday.

Fast forward to Sunday, when I was out snowboarding with the kids and put my right hand down (at speed) to stabilize myself around a corner, and completely bent my...

Re: What make of pipe bag do you play?

Thanks for this bit of advice. I was just wondering how to remove the stocks from the old bag (pull out, or push in).

Re: What make of pipe bag do you play?

A quick question, a little unrelated, but on the same topic...

I am thinking about switching from a large Bannatyne full synthetic (floppy GoreTex material) bag to a medium Bannatyne hybrid bag...

Re: College of Piping - Summer Session

Thanks for the tips, everyone (keep them coming)!

I'll be there Aug 14-19. To be completely honest, I need to do a better job organizing my practice time (refining embellishments, etc.), and...

College of Piping - Summer Session

Hi All - the stars aligned, and I was able to book a trip to Scotland and attend a week long summer session at the College of Piping in Glasgow. Any recommendations on how to prepare, what to...

Re: Shopping for First Pipes

I was in the same boat last year, and wound up purchasing McCallum AB pipes. I can confirm the good reviews above. The pipes sound great, and are were relatively easy to set up and reed.

Re: College of Piping - Seasonal School

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

I was leaning towards attending the CoP in Scotland, well, because it's in Scotland! I think I'll have to plan for next year, and turn it into a family...

College of Piping - Seasonal School

I'm a relatively new piper (1+ year on PC, <1 year on GHB), and am considering a College of Piping seasonal (week-long) school. I am currently working with an instructor, and we meet 3-4 times per...

Re: Any late bloomers?

I started at 44 (about a year ago), and am enjoying every second of the learning process. I'm glad I waited to start... I have more patience, my kids are older, and my wife is more understanding of...
