I used three strands of poly thread at a time, which meant I could bear down on the tension and really pack it on tight. I also used a cordless variable speed drill. Wrap one end of a drill bit...

If you err on one side or the other, make it a little larger in diameter. If you like it, keep it. If you want it tighter, you can always sew a dart lengthwise, and make it smaller around.

The way it was explained to me years ago was - when you slow down the tune tempo (as in just learning the tune), your embellishments should be very open to make sure your fingering...

Prior to next band practice, put your band chanter in, tune drones, and show up early to fine...
