Re: "Wrongly" arranged and misprinted tunes

Gordon gave me a few handwritten tunes(break yer bass drone- the ramnee ceilidh etc), no grace notes, strikes, doublings....nothing but the notes and the values. I asked him where all the...

Re: Why the bidding on these pipes?

What a fantastic idea! I wonder what we would end up with? Vintage Macdougalls? Or just a fantastic sense of satisfaction?

Re: Which is your priority with drone reed? chanter interaction or standalone drone s

I have had a similar dilemma.... Long and the short I went for the 'bright and strident but makes every note on the chanter electric along with swirling harmonics' over the 'little darker, bassier,...

Re: Help with transition to pipes...

Little and often. Nothing wrong with trying to play everyday (if you can).

Think of playing the pipes in the same way you think of running a marathon, or 10k. If you just went out and tried to...

Re: Proper head gear?

I would wear a hat, be it Glen Garry or Balmoral or whatever.

What PanCelticPiper has written really hits the nail. Folk generally want a piper for the image, few actually appreciate the music....

Re: Why the bidding on these pipes?

Maybe some phoney (sorry don't know the right term) bids? Make them look sought after in the hope that some sorry soul goes all out for them?

Re: Solo chanter

So, I suppose reflecting now, what is the problem (perceived or otherwise) with the McC2 chanter? Why the desire to change?

Any of the above will be fantastic.

Re: Solo chanter

Exactly my thoughts. Chanters, and reeds nowadays are fantastic. No massive box of reeds rifling through for hours (it was fun though).

Yeah, that's a fair point on comfort. But otherwise I'm...

Am I missing something?...

Shepherd Mk3 ABW w/Shepherd reed - no FNat
Shepherd Mk3 Plastic w/ Shepherd reed - good FNat

Same amount of tape on each

Re: "Orphan" Notes

I'm being simplistic (so I can understand) Hypothetically, if one reed needs a bit more tape on F the conditions could be right for a F natural? But another reed that doesn't need tape may not fire...

Re: Proper Doubling Cadence

What ever you do keep it simple.

To touch on a few things -

- Start slow and build the embellishment slowly.

- A doubling is a rhythmical embellishment, therefore you have to hear each...
