Re: Solo chanter

So, I suppose reflecting now, what is the problem (perceived or otherwise) with the McC2 chanter? Why the desire to change?

Any of the above will be fantastic.

Re: Solo chanter

Exactly my thoughts. Chanters, and reeds nowadays are fantastic. No massive box of reeds rifling through for hours (it was fun though).

Yeah, that's a fair point on comfort. But otherwise I'm...

Re: Lord Lovat's Lament 4/4

Pleased to say that any copyright claim on my video has now been removed. :woot:

But I've just had to submit another claim against another video  Seems this will be an ongoing saga with most...

Re: Solo chanter

This really got me thinking.... For the last 25years I've not played another chanter make other than Shepherd. For the last 20 years I've played the same Shepherd Mk3 ABW.

Am I missing something?...

Shepherd Mk3 ABW w/Shepherd reed - no FNat

Same amount of tape on each

Re: "Orphan" Notes

I'm being simplistic (so I can understand) Hypothetically, if one reed needs a bit more tape on F the conditions could be right for a F natural? But another reed that doesn't need tape may not fire...

Re: Proper Doubling Cadence

What ever you do keep it simple.

To touch on a few things -

- Start slow and build the embellishment slowly.

- A doubling is a rhythmical embellishment, therefore you have to hear each...

Re: The Sheepwife

I'm going through this just now with another well known tune. A company has claimed copyright to the tune which is in fact traditional.

Dispute ongoing.

Seems to be a common occurrence, where...

Yeah, live in Scotland William.

Lockdown here has been surreal to say the least. Very severe and strict.

Re: Video camera for practice sessions and performances

Aye that sounds good, but also like a lot of work. It would be excellent is you wanted to do YouTube videos, but less helpful when practicing as you lose that instant feedback.

Mind you I suppose...

Re: Video camera for practice sessions and performances

I just video record my practice on my phone. I find I get a lot more feedback from seeing myself as well as hearing myself perform.

TBH when you see what is recorded and played on things like an...

Ohhh Jeeeeez NOT THE DREMEL!! That is a classic, and advice of the worst degree.

I have inherited a chanter with a set of pipes from someone who must have had shares in dremel. It IS impossible to...

In fact I still haven't heard anything despite repeated phone calls...

Re: Fagerstrom HG Stinking

I thought I might just give the reed a wee poke

I know where you are coming from, but tbh I quite like it as you get the familiar crack to the embellishments. I miss that on the small pipes.
