Re: Bag fullness.

Yep, I always keep my bag fully inflated, it's easier to keep it steady that way. I use the analogy of dribbling a basket ball footfall, you can't do it if it's under inflated, same with the pipes....

Re: Humid Chanter Top vs Just Leaving Chanter in Pipes

I think it's the Tone Protector cap - bright blue plastic with a black screw? I put two sachets in to try and get the humidity % down. One sachet or two sachets? Doesn't make any difference. It's...

Humid Chanter Top vs Just Leaving Chanter in Pipes

You know how it is - the latest gadget comes out and we all have to go out and buy it only to find that a couple of months later, it gets put back on the shelf to collect dust and we go back to the...

Re: Knowing when a hide bag is done

The problem with hide bags (and probably any type of bag also) is that the deterioration is gradual. Which basically means that you don't notice that it's not as good as when you first tied it in. ...

Re: Forum activity levels

Just been reading Adam's stories of all the trolls here on the forum. I had no idea that all this stuff was going on! I seem to recall that the Bob Dunsire forum started because of the all...

Re: Am I really expected to play double D-gracenotes on certain triplets in jigs?

Paradoxically, the D grace note, played with your right hand is weaker than the G gracenote played with your left hand. I wonder why that is? You would think that your right hand (if you are right...

Re: Mull of Kintyre - rant

Here in Australia, a lot of the great unwashed consider the bagpipe riff from the AccaDacca song "It's a Long Way to the Top" a legitimate bagpipe tune and frequently request it. Similarly, with the...

Re: Mull of Kintyre - rant

I read somewhere that someone bet Paul McCartney that he couldn't write a number one pop song in waltz time with bagpipes. I guess that Sir Paul won the bet!

Re: Mull of Kintyre anniversary!

Is the mythology that goes with this song true - that someone once had a bet with Paul McCartney that he couldn't write a number one hit pop tune in 3/4 time with bagpipes?

Re: Bungee-jumper bagpiper

The bungee jumping is safe enough (just plain scary), however, he is damn lucky he didn't end up with the blowstick going through the roof of his mouth.

cheers

Re: Bass Reed Head to Head: Canning/Kinnaird

I am currently playing a set of David Naills, and the general consensus with Naills is to put Cannings in the tenor drones and a Kinnaird in the bass. However, I must be a rebel as I have Kinnaird...

Re: Campbell Tunable Chanter

Starting to sound a bit like Formula One racing where they can re-tune the cars whilst they are actually out on the track racing by using a Laptop etc.

It sounds like a great idea but the...

Re: Chanter reeds: waxed or unwaxed hemp?

I did a thread on this not so long ago - I much prefer the waxed yellow hemp. You get a new chanter reed out of the box, blow it to check the crow and then stick it in the chanter. As soon as you...

Re: new reed and what a difference

Yes, Pipe Majors know what's going on! Those four chevrons aren't just for show - they enable telepathy and ominicience!

Re: X-TREME drone reeds

Does Chris have a website where I can have a closer look at them and if so, is there a link?

I am keen to find out more about them and I quite liked the sound in the Ewe-tube clip. Having a...

Re: any top grade pipers use drone valves ?

It seems to be the consensus that drone valves are basically for clean starts and stops. Not too sure about the starts as there are a lot of other variables involved - such as reed adjustment,...

Re: robertsons original vs airtight seasoning vs mg

Just Googled "Lysol" to see what would come up and basically it's a product name for some sort of antiseptic. Which makes sense in a bag dressing. It was also used as a contraceptive many years ago...

Re: robertsons original vs airtight seasoning vs mg

Just out of interest, does anyone know what AirTite is made up of. Someone once told me that one of the main ingredients is lye. Lye is a solution of sodium hydroxide and water - which is one of...

Re: Polkemmet Pipe Band Medley 1984

Actually, the last tune is called "Pastiche" by Neil Dickie. It's pretty similar to Clumsy Lover but only has 4 parts and there are a few differences.

I can remember when that record first came...

Re: Cane Drone Reeds question

This will no doubt be a controversial topic - but in my experience you basically start off with a bucket full of reeds and work your way through them to find what works best in your pipe. Just...

Re: Chanter reed Mandrel

You can make a reed mandrel out of a screwdriver - obviously you have to get one with a diameter slightly smaller than the staple! But just cut the blade of the screwdriver off (doesn't matter if...

Re: Captain John MacLellan on Water Traps

I had one in the '80s that was made out of a sliced up wine cork and a .303 cartridge case that had the rim and neck sawn off. It was pretty effective if not a bit rough!

I remember reading...

Re: Marching?

I think that marching and playing at the same time are just practice - as for myself, the two go hand in hand, or foot in foot. You are moving your legs in time with the music. Left foot on the...
