Re: Proper Doubling Cadence

What ever you do keep it simple.

To touch on a few things -

- Start slow and build the embellishment slowly.

- A doubling is a rhythmical embellishment, therefore you have to hear each...

Re: The Sheepwife

I'm going through this just now with another well known tune. A company has claimed copyright to the tune which is in fact traditional.

Dispute ongoing.

Seems to be a common occurrence, where...

Re: G1 Reeds website and ordering

Yeah, live in Scotland William.

Lockdown here has been surreal to say the least. Very severe and strict.

Re: Video camera for practice sessions and performances

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAgJSDj_2rk

Recorded on a 6yo Android phone. If you skip to where I am close to the camera you can hear the microphone being overcome, but when a few feet away I...

Re: Video camera for practice sessions and performances

Aye that sounds good, but also like a lot of work. It would be excellent is you wanted to do YouTube videos, but less helpful when practicing as you lose that instant feedback.

Mind you I suppose...

Re: Video camera for practice sessions and performances

I just video record my practice on my phone. I find I get a lot more feedback from seeing myself as well as hearing myself perform.

TBH when you see what is recorded and played on things like an...

Re: Worst Advice Ever?

Ohhh Jeeeeez NOT THE DREMEL!! That is a classic, and advice of the worst degree.

I have inherited a chanter with a set of pipes from someone who must have had shares in dremel. It IS impossible to...

Re: G1 Reeds website and ordering

Tbf I think this is just a symptom of the covid times we live in. I ordered some items (non piping related) and heard nothing.

In fact I still haven't heard anything despite repeated phone calls...

Re: Garvie Border Pipes

Well sir, I've just ordered a set myself. Had much the same thoughts as yourself and plumped for the Garvies over the FM and others.

Waiting times are extended due to Covid though. Hopefully get...

Re: Fagerstrom HG Stinking

I thought I might just give the reed a wee poke

I know where you are coming from, but tbh I quite like it as you get the familiar crack to the embellishments. I miss that on the small pipes.

Exactly, received wisdom. It almost like these little nuggets become factoids.

Re: Fagerstrom HG Stinking

Yeah, the small pipe setting isn't too bad at all, but the GHB is howling. Didn't know if you could reprogram it?

Yeah, it does the midi out but as you say it's tedious and over the top, like...

Fagerstrom HG Stinking

Is there anyway to load an in tune HG on to the Fagerstrom TechnoPipes? The one that comes as standard on the GHB setting is stinking!

Because of that I hardly ever use it, which is a shame....

Re: First pipe band any advice?

As Calum wrote really.

Learn the tunes quickly in your time.
Be there on time and ready for the practice to start. Of course there is the social element, get the work done then gas away.
Listen...
