Hagrid, I’ll show you some when we are all back at band practice... I tend to use moulded in my solo chanter and G1s in my band chanter

Re: Problem with EZEdrone long reeds

Paul, my Hutcheons would probably tune to Bflat with a standard set of modern reeds. Try a normal bass reed and see how that goes.

Re: The Ship in a Bottle by Donald MacLeod

There is a recording of Donald Macleod playing it on “Piper’s Ceilidh”. I ended up transcribing that for my own use.

Re: How many sets do you own?

2014 Naills - main solo instrument.
1976 G&C - set up with slightly more robust reeds for my very occasional band turnouts but able to swap for solo if needed.
1890s JW Hutcheon cocus/ivory - used...

Re: Airstream blowpipes - actually useful?

Pressure drop of air passing down a pipe is inversely proportional to the 5th power of the pipe diameter. So even the 0.5mm difference you measured would result in the 10mm bore offering 23% lower...

Re: GDED gracenote timing in Donald MacLeod's reel: Roderick MacDonald

Having gone back to “Piper in the Nave” the way Donald Macleod plays the four note sequence is medium-short-short-longish...first three notes all quite similar with a wee bit more on note 1, and the...

Re: GDED gracenote timing in Donald MacLeod's reel: Roderick MacDonald

I’d have gone with something close to your second one (long-short-long-short) with the caveat that the fourth note should not be cut too much. The last low G is a big fat “and” note (linking note) to...

Re: Learning Tunes By Ear

I started learning classical flute a few years back. My teacher was impressed at the work ethic instilled in me by learning piobaireachd but she also made it clear that she found “the folk scene” and...

Re: WarMac Pipe Chanters

In my first full season as a very young piper with Helensburgh band (grade 3 at the time) they swapped onto plastic Warmac chanters in place of their old Hardie chanters. That was 1977-78, so it is...

Re: Dominant Naill drones - which reeds to use?

For what it’s worth I have Xtremes in my (4 year old) Naill drones. You may find they want blu-tac in the tuning screws to tune with the tenors on the hemp.

I had an old set of Ezees that were not...
