Re: Military Piping Heritage

I must of been dreaming when I did my SF course then, and all the other times we were refered to as an SF platoon! Oh and the SF concentrations as well.

Sustained fire is what we did. We only...

Re: Black Watch/Scots Guards Show

The Highland dancers are trained soldiers first and foremost, some are not even members of the Pipes and Drums. All have only been dancing for as long as they have been in the army. They do there...

Re: Military Piping Heritage

Pipes and drums have been trained soldiers for many years, many being the battalions SF or machine gun platoon. The Gordons were assault pioneers, I think the Scots guards pipers were stetcher...

Re: Black Watch 2013 Tour

Are you suggesting the bn's are doing their own thing then? As you and I both know, they wouldn't getaway with doing that. If they are wearing their old uniforms it is either because the MoD want...

Re: Black Watch 2013 Tour

I thought you were talking about the pipe bands. The Pipe bands still wear the old regimental uniforms their Bn is aligned to. The Regimental bands, were split into 2 bands (lowland and Highland)...

Re: Black Watch 2013 Tour

Thats not the Black Watch, that is 7 SCOTS one of the TA bands, the old 51st Highland/ 3rd Bn Black Watch. That uniform is what all the bands will end up in if the grown ups get their way.

Re: Black Watch 2013 Tour

I don;tthink they would want to be full time musicians, there is a bit of a stigma attached to the military bandsmen throughout the rest of the army. Besides, the nature of their combined job role...

Re: Black Watch 2013 Tour

The members of the Pipes and Drums are all soldiers first. Obviously, the British army is busy just now and as such retention becomes a problem for the band. Band numbers are nothing to do with the...

Re: P/M Robert Walkinshaw, R.A.F.

Re: The iconography of PM Evan MacRae

One...
