Re: Security Tracking Devices

The only long range option I know if off the top of my head, without research, is a device made for kids called a Gizmo, (LG) - in the US it works on Verizon's network. The unit itself is something...

Re: Parting Glass, 2nd part

Wait, this might be easier, here, I just recorded it-

Re: Parting Glass, 2nd part

Yeah, that's how it starts,

It might be worth trying to find it on a streaming service or something- Brian Boru playing it with the Ne'er Do Wells. They're playing it as an Air, it's on their 50th...

Re: PARTING GLASS 2nd part

This version starts on a D so the second part can start up on HA.

*Note: in this recording they start with the second part as a sort of into.

Re: head shakers

Not quite the same thing, but one afternoon as I was prepping for a Funeral my 2yr old son walked up behind me, put a hand on my kilt, and said,

"How nice, look good daddy!"

And then whispered,...

Re: Tunes for worships

Tim Cummings has several excellent arrangements of hymns for bagpipe/organ. He arranges them in multiple keys- one thing that's really helpful is that he'll put the organ music in Bb, but write out...

Re: Bit of a 'crack' problem needing some advice please

If you feel adventurous, (and poor,) you might consider:

Mixing wood glue with sawdust of a similar color, (cocobolo if possible,) and slathering that along the crack. Work it into the crack,...

Re: Just how low can you go?

Interesting thought: by using a keyed system, to essentially extend your fingers' spread, probably could get pretty darn long... Look at a contrabass clarinet, saxophone, etc for example...

Re: Bagpipe Refurbish

I agree with gaitero, I did my pipes just as he describes two years ago: paint stripper to get the varnish off, toothbrush for the combing, oil, then I did put the parts on a lathe and I spun-on a...

Re: Water bottles and camelpacs

I always wear a pack. We usually march in white shirt & tie with a gray vest- I find that the straps and pack itself blend-in to the vest well enough, (my pack is black and gray,) that it's hardly...

Re: Practice Chanter Recommendations

It may not work for you, but in a similar situation I once established a habit of building a little, "booth," out of couch cushions on the kitchen table. Then I could lean-in to the, "booth," and...

Re: The end of the world as we know it...really?

Utah, not the place that first comes to mind when thinking of bagpipes, boasts two High School pipe bands, a university pipe band, four competing pipe bands, (some of which have competition groups at...

Re: Surefire Synthetic chanter reed

I posted about mine not long ago: I like it for playing on my own, but it's a chore to get set-up, (initial tuning, I mean). Once it's there, it stays, but for me personally: I wouldn't want them for...

Cross-Fingering, finally found a way to make it work

I've always enjoyed playing tunes with a, "C natural," and other accidentals, but I've never been able to get cross-fingering to work.

*not never: I live in a high-mountain desert region, I think...

Re: Do you ever take your students on gigs?

I took a student along for a birthday performance and twice for funerals. The birthday performance was low-key and low-pay, so I wasn't worried about anything being, "messed-up".

One funeral, the...

Re: Notes in Music?

A good place to start, friend, might be, "bending," notes by sliding your fingers across the holes.

Example: Pumpkin's Fancy

Vibrato can also be achieved by wavering fingers over holes that...
