Re: Drone Reed Suggestions - D MacPhersons

I tried everything and finally settled on Selbie tenors and a Rocket bass in my MacPhersons. They've been great for years, no problems. Cannings sounded good, too.

Re: Bore and sleeve vs. New blowpipe

I can second the Crisler blowpipe. Very free-blowing, valve is super airtight. When you need extra valves, just send him an email. He's real cool. I like being able to use it on any set of pipes or...

Re: Circular Breathing For The PC

Try taking a mouthful of water and squeezing it out with your cheeks into the sink in a focused, small stream that you can sustain for a few seconds. Once you've got that part down, breathe in...

Re: regarding Canning Drone Reeds

I had trouble with the playability of a Canning bass in one of my sets, so I emailed him about it for help setting up the reed. He asked me what pipes I was using, then he sent me another bass reed...

Re: Kron Heritage Drones and Selbie Reeds?

I have a set, and Selbies sound great in them. I have my Selbies in my other pipes, so the Kron's are either cane or Rocket lately. I really like these pipes, and I'd probably sell off my other sets...

Re: Wrong Hole

It's an unsatisfying crunch sound, isn't it? I've done that, and since then I usually put the blowpipe in before I take the pipes anywhere, especially if I'll be in a hurry or nervous. Nothing like...

Re: Hemp too tight!

since twisting and rocking won't work, just use brute force to pull it straight off. you won't split the wood if you pull straight off. I've done this with used pipes I bought that were hopelessly...

Re: Yawn! Another Thread on Hemping

I like the idea of mixing the waxed and unwaxed. I've used the couple feet of black wax and yellow unwaxed with no problems, but I will try the mix next time.

Re: Getting in drone regulators for sealed bag?

Easiest thing to do is not use them, unless you have good reason to. I have a few sets of various regulators/enhancers/valves that came with used pipes, and I've found that I'm better off without...

Re: Shepherd Pipes

I bought a set of new Shepherd pipes for my first set, and I had several cracks and a bowed bass drone. I was told that since they weren't leaking, the pipes were okay. Here's a pic of a tenor...

Re: Before Gig Tuning. Help?

Let the pipes be at the temperature you're going to perform at. Then, Tune the drones as fast as you can. You don't want to play much. If you tune after playing for 5 or 10 minutes, then your pipes...

Re: Beck/Moose valve in wood stock...

I use a Moose in both of my wooden sets of pipes, and I just empty often (a good reason to stop playing for a bit) and let the pipes air out before closing the case for a long period.

Re: Moose Valve and airstream

I'm not sure I understand the problem. Is the problem you want to solve the really wet stock or the dry chanter reed?

Wet stock: Moose valve will make part of it wetter for a longer period of...

Re: Hempless Tuning Pins With Cork?

All of my blowpipes are corked. I'm a band director with instrument repair experience, and I can cork a woodwind joint quite nicely. I have resisted doing the work on my tuning slides, because I like...
