Re: Moose valve

I put mine into the stock loosely and then push it down with the blowstick. Then I remove the blowstick and with the moose valve tightener (whatever it is called) I push it down a skosh more and...

Re: Losing Stamina if you can't play for a few weeks?

I notice a bit of a reduction in stamina when I don't practice but not so much it takes long to get back to form. And not nearly as long as it took to get there the first time!

Re: drone reed advice please!!

I play Crozier carbon in my 50's Hardies and like them. Nothing to compare to but have them dialed in and playing nice with my McC2 poly chanter.

Re: Reattaching blowstick stock

Zip tied and taped (though the local Ace didn't have the silcon type, dangit). All is apparently well, at least well enough to warm up and play through Struan Robertson's Salute.

Thank you all...

Re: Reattaching blowstick stock

That is correct, Patrick. The blowstick stock appears to be tape only (but you know how there can be hidden 'gotchas') and the drone stocks look identical, i.e. tape only.

The chanter stock is...

Reattaching blowstick stock

So I go to fire up the pipes this morning and air is blowing all over. After recovering from a near stroke that something horrific had happened I find that the tape on the blowstick stock had come...

Re: Looking for Piobaireachd lessons via Skype

I can personally recommend Neil Clark (member of this forum) of Great Glen Piping. He is in Scotland and I 'meet' with him about twice a month for the express purpose of learning piobaireachd. I'm...

Re: Big Powerful Drone sound.

Crozier carbon fiber in all three ca 50's Hardies. It is a robust sound when I have the bridles set correctly. Took some doing to get all to play nicely with the new McC2 poly but I think it is...

Re: Bagpipe Lessons on Skype

I'll jump on the bandwagon (so to speak) as a fan of Skype tuition.

I had some previous experience of face to face lessons so that helped out the outset but the instructor where I used to live was...

Re: Secret Shortcut

This is exactly my experience. I struggle with something for a long time and then all of a sudden, it seems to work. I've experienced time and again the reward that comes from just keeping at it. ...

Re: How did you learn to play bagpipes?

How did I learn to play bagpipes? I put my foot in a vise and cranked it down whilst at the same time bashing my hand with a mallet.

Learning the pipes seemed marginally less painful (though not...

Re: How long to make a set of pipes?

Fascinating discussion for those of us relatively new to the art.

Re: Life of a practice chanter reed

My first one went almost two years but was completely shot by the time replacements arrived. Got TWO new PC reeds yesterday (shout of thanks to Chris Apps Reeds) and what a difference. I had no...

uisge beatha

Won't help your piping but then neither will any other shortcut. This one just tastes better, you will enjoy yourself and generally feel better about the whole situation!

Re: Piobaireachds, speeding tickets and missed exits

This drill takes some doing to get it started but it is really helpful getting the B finger to play at the right time and in the same rhythm/cadence as the rest.

Kinnaird cover fit my L&M bag perfectly. They have a pulldown menu to specify the bag you are using. $45 with the non-slip patch.
