Re: "Clan MacRae Society" four or six parts?

I would most certainly inform them prior to performing your intentions and why (with why most certainly not being ďjust becauseĒ).

Re: Big problem with Canmore Hybrid

Yes and allah forbid you have beads on your ferrules.

I was given the advice to use an appropriately sized piece of pvc (1.5Ē sch 40 I think) that fits over the stock but allows you to push on the...

Re: "Phase locking" drones

The hard bottom D is a more strident timbre than normal bottom D. They usually have slightly different tuning, at least that's my experience. You activate the hard bottom D by increasing the pressure...

Re: How far will you travel for a gig?

These days I wonít even walk out my front door. Not because of covid, but because I just donít care to earn money for something I do for myself. Itís not theirs, itís mine. No judgement being passed...

Re: Has pitch topped out?

Sharp high G? Does it come in with piob high G? If so, you can ďfixĒ that by opening the top of the chanter throat (but donít go all the way). Iíll look up my Youtube video if you think it might be...

Re: Hemping stock joints

I have seen excellent work from MacHarg and Dunbar and can vouch for both. Pricing was excellent from both, seemingly unbelievable to me (who doesn’t get work done often). Very accessible pricing on...

Re: Hemping stock joints

Just put some REAL beeswax (not the crap that comes in that yellow clear case) on linen hemp or real hemp and wrap it around tight. When doing tuning pins, maybe make the last wrap wax free for a...

Re: Hemping Basics - Securing when done

I hate when people tie the ends. Drives me nuts trying to find the end! Completely unnecessary.

Re: Is it worth my while to get smallpipes?

When you play two tones together, if they are not in tune, you will hear dissonance. The closer the two tones are the slower the beat frequency, or wah wah sound is. Once in tune, i.e. the wah wah...

Re: Is it worth my while to get smallpipes?

Blair’s tuners only work on highland pipes, at least that’s what he told me a couple years ago. Tenor and bass still tune to low A. Relative tuning of the chanter is the same as highland pipes. The...

Re: What's all this flap about flapper valves?

10 seconds or many years. Depending on how much the person making it gave a shat. And luck.

Re: What's all this flap about flapper valves?

The problem with these is the lack of care in manufacture. Rough edges of the brass cut through the rubber over time if it didnít already come broken. I had one once where the brass was double folded...

Hemping stock joints

Many years ago it was conveyed to me to NOT hemp beyond the combed section on stock joints; the combing doesn't extend all the way down the joint, just like it doesn't extend all the way to the top....

Well, I've put my recordings where my mouth is and finally got around to recording David Ross of Rosehall with the changes mentioned. I hope I did it justice!

Re: Celticpipes PDF, cutting off right margin

Having never used Celticpipes, is the default page size set to something other than what youíre expecting? Either in the format of the tunepage or in the print dialog?

Re: Is it worth my while to get smallpipes?

OMG, Iíve been only managing to play every 3 days or so and itís caught up to me. Ugh! While playing them regularly (but not frequently, you might say), Iíve gotten out of shape!

Re: Soliciting input on drone sounds

Nice to hear from you John, been a while!

I thought I might mention that the recorder is about 6 ft off the ground, but also only 6 ft away, so it's a pretty direct shot right into the microphone,...

Re: Soliciting input on drone sounds

I've got a couple cane basses laying around but not that patience to get/keep them going in <20% humidity. I was going to replace the Ackland bass with another big synthetic (X-TREME, Kinnaird) but...

Re: 2020 setup?

I love em in my Kyos, just a blast. Have used Ezee/Kinnaird, X-TREME, and Redwood/Kinnaird in the past but the Ackland are just perfect. Another guy here in Lubbock sends me a text when he plays...

Re: Soliciting input on drone sounds

Youíre welcome. I wanted to point out that itís the same chanter in every recording. Presumably, ostensibly, etc. the only variable is the drone reeds.

Re: Soliciting input on drone sounds

I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to chime in; it is much appreciated.

As you might guess the sound samples are related to my consulting with Terry Ackland and his drone reeds. They...

Soliciting input on drone sounds

If you could indulge me and tell me what you think of these two recordings of drone sounds. What you like, what you don't like about the sound (not the recording or the shoddy playing  ). They...

Pipe Band MSRHJ

Let's make the pipe band MSR competition more interesting by making it a MSRHJ.

Hornpipes and Jigs with *swing* of course. Played straight has its merits, but not here. :thumb:
