We have a guy in the band that for whatever reason has bought an extra long blowpipe/mouth piece and has bent it to a curve

I suspect ergonomics and comfort to be the reason....

You could get a little creative with it.

Glue some fabric around it, maybe your tartan.

Put your band logo on the top and bottom.

Just keep it away from the bass drummer.

I agree 100%. I've seen many of these and they are made in Pakistan. Never seen a name brand reed with this look.

That said, some can be very nice sounding and work well. Not most though.
