Regarding installation of a MouseValve, over-tightening the compression ring can place a significant amount of outward lateral pressure upon the inner walls of the blowpipes stock. This excess...

Not the right tool for this job.

Re: Takeaway tips from botched gigs?

On the topic of ‘backup’ pipes....never set your pipes down upon a chair at an event. Someone with poor vision will sit upon them.

This scenario occurred to a Scottish fiddle player I met. He set...

Re: Takeaway tips from botched gigs?

Another factor that I failed to mention...emotion.
For several years, I was “the” police honor guard piper.
Maintaining composure with a grieving family with young children...and a hundred or more...

Re: Takeaway tips from botched gigs?

Stairs....while playing the pipes....aaarrrgh!

Doorways can be disastrous too. I have no problem with leaning back a bit to navigating the doorway. The problem comes with ‘good samaritans’ who do...

Re: Takeaway tips from botched gigs?

Before a gig, I would always check that reeds are firmly seated, hemping on chanter and drone tenons in good shape, hemping for drone tops not loose.

Day of performance...play in the...

Re: Why is it still ivory that's No.1?

I now have a vintage non-ivory set that is my number 1.

I took a gamble on a set of wood-mount pipes this year and was rewarded with a set of ebony WWI Henderson pipes. A couple of ferrules had...

Re: ? Pre-1900 Henderson Pipes - ebay

The only way to get a refund (for any reason) is to ask the seller to make a wire refund to your bank. eBay has no coverage for refunds, returns, etc...
No buyer protection.

Re: ? Pre-1900 Henderson Pipes - ebay

I messaged the seller for what provenance he has for Henderson and 1895. His response was none other than his pipes may be similar to Henderson and that people are happily bidding on his auction.

Re: ? Pre-1900 Henderson Pipes - ebay

Seems to be going that direction...bidding has stalled for bit...with high bid > $1500.

Thoughts for what maker these pipes came from?
