Re: Kilts and proper kilts, Oy vey ist meir....

A wool kilt in a 4th of July parade in a St Louis summer is a march in to Hell with melted asphalt stuck to the bottom of your ghilly brogues. A St Louis columnist suggested every year that business...

Re: Early Henderson bore sizes

I think the suggestion to contact Alastair Dunn is an excellent one. That's where I would start. But on Henderson bores: It depends a lot on who does the measuring and when - wood moves over time....

Re: Why is it still ivory that's No.1?

I think calling it "Imitation Ivory" does help describe what look you are going for. Some attempts are more successful than others. A version of celluloid used on some points was built in layers so...

Re: Why is it still ivory that's No.1?

I bet Briar root would be great, if you can find it large enough. Mesquite and Osage Orange are also great and work well. In my area, I'm lucky enough to be able to harvest Osage Orange, and it has a...

Re: Why is it still ivory that's No.1?

If you play in a band, you might tend to opt for a choice that tends to be somewhat uniform with everyone else, just as in dress, drone cords and pipe bag. But I think mainly it's tradition and...

Re: How to Obtain Good Chanter Reeds

I believe Chris Apps can supply you with instructions and a mandrel for the purpose through his web site. As well as reeds.

Re: eBay Scammer, BEWARE - Henderson pipes

Doc, I guess we'll also need notarized affidavits from all the involved parties, and a signed confession from the would-be perpetrator would be nice.

Re: Gordon Walker

There was a person in a position of trust who abused that position and trust to abuse young people. I think this thread serves an important purpose, if the takeaway is that everyone involved with...

Re: Help identifying this set of pipes...

I'd say the McCallum name and the date stamped on the slide pretty much nail it.

Re: Ebay custom Edenbourl bagpipes

Reminds me of the old saying: "If I could buy you for what you're worth, and sell you for what you think you're worth.."

How do you think the tune sounds on the pipes? Does it translate well?

Re: A piper's eye

Piper's Ear: St Louis Symphony and a tune collected by Vaughn Williams called Lovely Joan. Sure sounds like it'd transpose to the pipes.

Re: Anyone know these pipes, wood? Maker?

At one time, I remember one of the makers having a selection of all types of plastic, mainly meant to simulate gemstones such as jade, garnet, etc. I'm toying with the idea of a set using antler - I...

Re: Anyone know these pipes, wood? Maker?

Re: Anyone know these pipes, wood? Maker?

Re: Another Paradigm Shift in Pipe Banding
