Pekaar Encyclopedia Abuse

I’m getting quite a few queries to the website that look like database injection. I’ve implemented a block.

Please let me know if you get caught by this block and weren’t trying to abuse the...

Re: Balancing chanter

You will want to fine tune the other notes, and hoping any that are out of tune are sharp so that you can easily apply electrical tape, or similar, to the top of the hole to flatten it just the right...

Re: Gordon Walker

I have little doubt, from their continuous responses suggesting this thread be closed, that said person will continue to stir the pot JUST to inflame the debate so that the thread does get closed....

Re: Gordon Walker

But he is such a great player, we can’t just let his talent go to waste. Just like Brock Turner, right?

The sarcasm should be evident.

Re: "B" Flat Set up

My stream of consciousness wonders if the weakening top hand (or however Bob puts it during the grade 1 WPBC livestream) isn’t due to the higher pitches? How much of that would be alleviated by...

Re: Rocket Drone Reeds Required

Similar to what William said, you are likely to be able to get more efficient and at least equivalent tone out of commercially available reeds. What kind of pipes are you playing? Perhaps we could...

Re: Current Obsession w/Kantara to El Arish

Great tune, one of my favorites.

It is a misprint proven within the sheet music itself. It lists the 3rd part ending as the 2nd ending to the 4th part but it writes it all over again, and with an...

Re: Who makes this reed?

I can’t tell what you mean here. Based on your experience, you found the tone satisfactory enough despite what the popular piper blog said? If so, I would like to read what this person had to say...

Re: Drone Volume in Old Recordings

I am not trying to emulate the recordings, save for what I might deduce about relative drone volume to the chanter.

Regarding the timbre of the notes that my recording attempts to show, I ascribe...

Re: Drone Volume in Old Recordings

Here is my attempt at capturing the various timbres of the notes referenced in my initial post. The reel at the end was for fun, please ignore my sloppy birls, especially those that start on B...

Drone Volume in Old Recordings

When you listen to old recordings (not recordings of pipers who are now old, I'm talking as old as they get), the drones are very audible, especially the tenors.

Re: Flat High G

That’s a strange problem to have. Just making sure that if you’re referencing a tuner, and it’s a chromatic/normal tuner, that you’re aware our Gs tune 31 cents flat from that reference. Just like C#...

Re: Strike-ins, what a pain!

I wouldn’t bother making a new nose cone. Just fit some brass hobby tubing and plug the end of the tube. I’m *guessing* the threaded inner diameter of the current nose cone is based on the size of...

Re: Strike-ins, what a pain!

Some pipe+reed combinations just howl (tenors only) and come in with the chanter. This is rarely/never true for the bass.

It kinda sounds like you have a very narrow window between drones not...

Re: Strike-ins, what a pain!

2 things:
1) practice a lot (sounds like you’re doing that), specifically not letting the chanter sound
2) it is, or should be, possible to find a good sounding set of reeds that comes in every...

Re: Worlds - filling and test their bags

It is not a new trend. Judging starts as you cross the line. Gotta make sure your bag is full.

Re: PARTING GLASS 2nd part

Yet another tune that's just one note out of reach for all of us who don't pinch out a high B like Klondike, though you could play it in Amin with C and F naturals...

Anyways, looks like...

Well, I had the pipes out all afternoon so threw this together real quick, a highland pipes example:

Re: Loch Lomond sheet music

As Richard says, the traditional melody doesn’t fit the scale given the A drone limitation.

Instead of compromising the melody, I would compromise the bagpipe. Tune C# and F# to C natural and F...
