Transition to the Worlds

Our band will be travelling to the 2019 World Championships. We will be competing in Grade 4 and hope to do well.
However, we are from the dry Canadian prairies with an elevation of about 4000 ft....

I was always told not to adjust the top section of the base drone once it was set at the hemp line on the mid-section.

I'm playing two 2/4 tunes each with a quarter note lead-in.
Do I play the lead-in notes in the second tune if the first tune's last bar contains two quarter notes?
Or do I shorten the last quarter...

Drone "loudness"

If a competition band is trying to get the loudest sound from their drones do they tune them at a different frequency or all the same? I'v heard that some PM's will tune them one or two hertz...

Not every piper in a competing band is of the same calibre as other pipers. Some will be stronger than others. How would you place your strongest and weakest players in 3 rows of 4 pipers?
