Re: Kyo Chanters

As for pictures of old vs newer, here's what I could scrounge up. I don't own any kyo chanters, so I am being as third-party as possible.

Old:...

Re: Kyo Chanters

I know with both McCallum and Kyo, the two makes that have been previously mentioned on this thread, not only did new models come with different internal specs, they also came with different outside...

Re: Synthetic Chanter Reed

Having been a kid piper not long ago, starting at 10 in 2007 through to now, and near enough having been piping more in my life than not, I can sympathize with the player in the video. I think he is...

Re: Early 80's Lawie drones w/EZ reeds

Something to be aware of, most synthetic reeds (especially flat bridle reeds like Eezydrone and canning) 'open' up over time because the rubber gradually loosens up. After all, just like a rubber...

Re: Winter Storm 2018 1st Time

The syllabus is up online here: curriculum (https://mhaf.org/workshop-curriculum/)

It depends, I think, on what you want to get out of the workshop. For playing purposes, you could get away with...

What's the name of the book you're referencing? I want to have a look, because it sounds really interesting to me

Re: David Naill Bagpipes, good?

As someone who does not and has not owned any Naills, I can tell you at least my impressions.
-Naills (chanters and drones) regularly are among the top prize winners in Scotland's biggest solo...

Re: Anyone using the Tone Protector?

I think that much of this discourse will be put to rest when/if the patent is issued, because those are public domain. I wonder where the patent is in the bureaucratic process?

Re: Anyone using the Tone Protector?

For the record, I haven't bought one (would like to though. College kid poor problems are taking my money elsewhere).

If RH of Lungs are 100%, 85% is only 15% away. Considering that a fully dried...

Re: Sheepskin bag tie in troubleshoot

It is just a little uncomfortable.

This is my third or fourth bag from this same maker, and this is incidentally the first one that's done this. I don't think that the hole position or the chanter...

Sheepskin bag tie in troubleshoot

Not so much a trouble shoot, but I'm curious why my sheepskin bag I just tried on twists over at the chanter stock.

To try to describe it, the weekly along the bottom is centered along the length...

Re: 3 Lines of hemp to hear the unicorn fluff

It's always interesting to me when common wisdom becomes law, and especially when the common wisdom includes a caveat that it may be wrong.

I'd always heard that most drones will sound pretty...

Re: Silicon tubing in split-stock tube trap

Use milking tubing
Just measure the ID of your split stock shell and the OD of the tenon and find the right size, somewhere like here:...

Re: Drone reed tongue length and stability

The thinking is that with a long tongue, the same level of fluctuations aren't near as noticeable because they are proportionally smaller.

Re: Lower Pitch Reed Suggestions

Let me get this straight:
You: I'd like a B flat reed
Chris Apps: That doesn't exist for this chanter. But I can sell you a reed that plays at a relatively flat pitch
You: I'll buy three

You:...

Re: Whare to find spare stocks?

Hendersons Imports here in the US sells individual parts by different makers on their site somewhere. That way, you may be able to get a nigh on perfect matching set for a second bag

Re: Boyle's Law and Bag Size

One thing that complicates this discussion is the difference in terms of the pipes themselves between pressure and air volume. Multiple reeds set to operate at the same pressure can have wildly...

Canning Drone reeds and the drone pre-tone rumble

Has anyone ever had a set of cannings that do a pre-tone rumble?

I know ezee-drone reeds do this very consistently, and I know many other reeds can be set to do this (if someone really wanted to)....

Re: Drone Dimensions: Bass vs Tenors

Quite the opposite, most pipes I've ever seen have different measurements between bass and tenor ring cap bores (usually pipers call these the bushings)
I'd be more curious about the other pipes...

Re: Uneven Drone Bores

I'd be curious to hear from woodworkers and pipe makers about which scenario is more likely
Bore getting oval from parts shrinking in differentially
Or
Bore getting oval from parts opening up...
