Re: Anybody knows book: Boney Music ?

Unfortunately, Mr. Bonar passed away some months back. A true loss to the piping community.

Re: Help identifying possible Hardie pipes?

I'm curious if Ringo's prediction is true. Are all the holes in the drone tops the same diameter?

(On my McLeod pipes, all the holes are different sizes, even the two tenors!)

Re: Kyo Chanters

Harley, I have to take exception to your use of the word "dodgy" with regard to Murray's chanters. Regardless of age. Reeds, trending target pitch, climate, altitude, operator skill, and other...

Re: Kyo Chanters

2011. Hmmm. I have a couple Colin Kyo chanters, but I'm not sure the year. I think they are a few years older than that. If I can manage time, I'll try to get some measurements of mine. I do know for...

Re: Tuning the 'pipes for a cold start?

I'm just curious how they would know where that would be. Do they put tape on their drones before they take them apart? Mark the pins with a grease pencil? Use "one finger/two finger/three finger"?...

Photos of the bushings?

(A lot of those photos are similar to each other.)

Very possibly Hardies.

Re: Tuning the 'pipes for a cold start?

It's called "cold tuning".

The only thing I'd add is try to tune up (wherever that happens) in an area the same temperature as the playing area. This is, don't tune up outside in 40°F degree...

Re: Kyo Chanters

Oh, and Murray is on vacation with his family in Hawaii. I wouldn't expect a quick response right now.

Re: Colin Kyo Chanters

It depends on the age of the chanter too. I know Murray tweaked the holes a few years back.

And Colin Kyo is a made up name that's a combination of family members—much like David Naill. There is...

Re: Kinnaird Edge Drone Reed

Jim McGillivray once said something along the lines of synthetic drone reeds get you 95% of the sound with 0% of the headaches of cane.

Cane sounds great until they shut down on you unexpectedly...

Re: Kinnaird Edge Drone Reed

I have a set of these new reeds in my hot little hands. I'm hoping to get time to mess with them over the weekend. Given Rob's track record for making reeds, I have high hopes.

Re: How to manage PMs [Private Messages]

What do you get when you cross an elephant and a rhino?

Eleph-ino.

That's likely tied to the server's internal clock, I'd imagine, and is a Mike Greene question.

Effective immediately, hosting of images for the Trading Post will be permitted. There may be hiccups, but we'll work through those as necessary.

I'll be making a more formal announcement soon.
