By drone strength do you mean volume?

Re: Dunbar's Delrin Kitchen Pipes :)

You can still play with other instruments if you have A466 pipes just as well as with A440 pipes. Just let others know that youíre a half step higher than them. What we call A other instruments would...

Re: Want Estimated Value on a Set of Pipes

Come on! Now Evan's gonna have a bigger head after you put him in the same league as Ringo and JM! (Kidding, Evan!)

Granted, I've never known anyone else to go through as many sets of pipes...

Re: Setting Monthly-Yearly Goals

That transition time might be doable, but will take a bit of work. I think I had a similar time frame, starting on the chanter in December of 2013 and moving on to pipes in May 2014, but I was 16 and...

Re: bagpipe prices c1950

Strange. Not on topic of price, but the seller also says "it seems as though two pieces have been replaced at some point with plastic and have since yellowed" after saying that this seller is the...

Re: Been away for a while, input on new pipes

Did you try contacting Rick at Dunbar asking if it was possible to get the Bredalbane bores in delrin drones? Seems like that might check all your boxes.

Re: Selbies bass drone reed

I wouldnít recommend submerging the bag in water to find leaks. Instead, pour 1/4 to 1/2 cup of water in the bag (with the stocks corked off) and blow it up tight. Any leak will be visible by the...

Re: Tying in a new bag

Cutting the bag isnít too scary. Go to a hardware store and buy a 1Ē copper T-joint and get a large paint stirrer. File the single edge of the T-joint until it will cut the skin (I tested on...

Re: Youngest bagpiper?

One of my piano professors in my undergrad had a DM and couldnít find beat one on the metronome if it was set to some sort of rhythm as opposed to just clicks.

Just because you have the...

Re: Losing air at bass drone

Shouldnít the reed be open more than itís closed?

Correct me if Iím wrong, but the tongue would always be in one of four states: fully open, closing, fully closed, opening.

Out of those four...

Re: Losing Air at base drone

What make of bass reed(s)?

Are you sure itís optimized for air efficiency?

Where did you plug the bass drone from? Just at the stock or somewhere along the drone?

Sharpness War

I know the subject of ever increasing chanter pitch comes up from time to time, and this video showed up on my YouTube suggestions.

It's not about piping/pipe band tuning, but it is about how...

If there were any NOS Iím sure Patrick would have bought them all already.

Re: Orig or restored?

Fritz, I gotta ask where/how you come by all these great sets of pipes?

I (kinda) know the story of the full ivory set of 1880/90s Hendersons you sold Austin and now this WWI era set of ebony...

Re: Scotian Bag

L&M made their own seasoning for these bags. Not sure if they still make the seasoning since they're not making the bags anymore.

From what I've been told by those who used the bags, it was very...

Re: A real bitey blower

I donít think I could trust my drone reeds to anything other than a sticky-waxed hemp.

As for the biting the mouthpiece issue, I highly recommend the Reed Wrangler as well.

Re: Opinion on '90s(?) Hardies?

If the eBay pipes that Richard posted are indeed the pipes in question, I remove my recommendation to buy them.

Run. Run away. Run far away.

Re: What does the EUSPBA do?

Quick side question:

I keep seeing it called "The EUSPBA." Does that mean you pronounce each letter separately?

In my head, I've always called it as one word - kinda like Yoospuhbah since out...

Re: On competition - is music a sport

Being a music teacher at a US public high school I have to somewhat disagree, at least in my position. Music gets no funding at all. Everything and anything I need is either fundraised for or comes...

Re: Check out these bagpipes

My understanding is the bores are made of brass tubing and everything is foam of some sort.

Re: Opinion on '90s(?) Hardies?

Then all the more reason! Buy the pipes, assess what you do/don't like about them. Send them off to a pipemaker to improve them if necessary.

You could be looking at an output of $400-600...

Re: What does the EUSPBA do?

WRT solo piping competitions, at least out here, the solos start before the Games really open. Solos often start at 8 for G4 soloists and the general games-goers don't show up until 10 or 11.

Re: Opinion on '90s(?) Hardies?

If theyíre in good condition, I would go for them.

You might have someone nearby who does small time pipe making who could, if needed, bore out the drones a bit. The PM of our G2 band did that...

Re: Jaw Pain - Piping

It might be that your blowpipe or mouthpiece got turned a little off of optimal and your jaw is angling to compensate for that.
