Re: Best ABW Chanter ?

I have found a standard McCallum blackwood chanter to be easy to read and play over all. There are nice reeds out but some may take a little finese with reeding.

Re: Tuning old Henderson bass drone

I did exactly that, took about 1/4-3/16" off the end of the reed, stuffed it deep, and the bass drone was nicely tuned and I thought sounded better like that. This was on my Dunbars with a husk bass...

Re: what causes a chanter reed to squeal??

I would say closing the air flow down or over blowing a weak read.

Re: Cane reeds shutting off in the sunshine?

I would advise springing the tenors about half as much as the bass. This should help with not breaking the toung off. If its your bass don't go so far.

I'l never go back to synthetic reed unless...

Re: Warmac/Warnock?

I say no they are two different reeds. One is semi shoulder cut (Warnock) and the other is not (Warmac). This is how mine are anyway.

Re: Reaming and threading reed seat on Naills..

I don't think I would ever want to thread the read seat of my drones. I can see the chanter but it just sounds like trouble to me.

Re: Looking for brighter and better Chanter

Just say move over chipmunks with numbers that high. Personaly I like a wee lower chanter. 468-478 above that just don't sound comfortable.
