I'm looking for info on the 3/4 march La Marche Vis-en-Artois, especially who composed it. I've tried an internet search and have only come up with info about the village itself and the WWI...

Re: Celtic Farewell - Sweeney

I played it a few years ago with a school band in the area. I didn't think I had a "B flat" chanter at the time and so used standard tuning. Sorry, I don't remember if I accompanied the band or...

Re: Competition Breakdown

Years ago at the Chicago games, my events were in the order piobaireachd, march, strathspey & reel. Sailed through the piobaireachd. Got into the third part of the march and just couldn't keep the...

Re: Balance Tone VS. BT High Resonance Drone Reeds

What can I do to get rid of the trailing drone squeal? I've been using standard Balance Tone reeds for 2 days and like them except for the after squeal.

Re: Balance Tone Drone Reeds

I've been using a set of Balance Tone reeds for a couple days. How do I get rid of the tenor squeal after cut offs?

Re: Battle Of Britain Dinner tunes?

Spitfire by PM Angus MacDonald. It is in Bob Worrall's book #2, one of PM Angus MacDonald's books, and (I think) Scots Guards 3.

Re: Grade 4 Piobaireachd tunes

I had good results with "Prince Charles' Lament". I played the arrangement found in Angus MacKay's book in 6/8 time rather than the PS arrangement in 4/4 time.

I was watching a YouTube video of the Scots Guards escorting the crown from Edinburgh Castle to the Scottish Parliament (https://youtu.be/2ksG63oUR_Q). Every time the P&D started to play "Heilan...

Re: Taps on pipes?

I was asked to play "Taps" (and did) once when the trumpeter who usually did the honors for the local VFW had to go out of town just before Veterans' Day ten+ years ago. I've also piped for graveside...

Re: 4 parted 4/4 march

"People Mover"...got that from Alasdair Gillies...a tune to move people up the street as opposed to a competition tune. From the 2/4 idiom..."Brown Haired Maiden" is a "people mover" while "Bonnie...

4 parted 4/4 march

Looking for a good 4 parted 4/4 march to go with Cabar Feidh, Jimmy Finlater, and Falkland Palace. I'd prefer a "people mover" and not something loaded with finger gymnastics.

Re: Vintage photo - 1944 Eindhoven ???

I think they are a mix of pipers & drummers from two of the battalions in 46 Brigade, 15th Scottish Division. Member battalions in 1944 were 2nd Glasgow Highlanders (their cap badge was very similar...

Re: Four part (maybe five, max) Pibroch recommendations?

Duncan MacRae of Kintail's Lament. 4 parts in Kilberry, 3 parts in the PS. Nice melody and the fingering isn't tricky. No taorluath or crunluath in those settings but another version has them (Colin...

Re: Which pipemaker in these vintage photos?

The bag covers are red in the same photo as it appears on the album cover of the LP "Red Hackle in Concert" by the Red Hackle Pipe Band. John Weatherson was pipe major and a partner of RG Hardie.

Re: When was the First Medley Competition?

I remember reading (somewhere) that the RSPBA started using a medley format in the late 1960s/early 1970s to encourage bands to play the little 2 parted tunes again.
