Re: What tune never gets old to you?

MacLean of Lewis - should be the standard instead of some other 6/8s.

Steamboat - quick tune, common and easy harmonies on the...

Re: Famous pipers who, arenít/werenít Gold Medalists?

Robert Mathieson
David Barnes

Two great Pipe Majors. Huge respect to Barnaby Brown too, not enough highland pipers know of him in the pipe band scene.

UK Gold Medalists...

Re: Time to boycott the Worlds?

Fair enough - generally speaking, I was always impressed how well Novice Juvenile, and Juvenile bands fare against adult grades. Juveniles over here taking scalps against grade 3 bands often, and...

Re: Time to boycott the Worlds?

So to retract the statement about dishonesty earlier - it sounds like it was a Spirit of Scotland all over again:

"The Band was formed in a relatively short time in 2013..under The leadership of...

https://www.rspba.org/results/displaybanddetail.php?Year=2013&Band=West%20Coast%20Highlanders

Only contest that year, so why?

Re: Time to boycott the Worlds?

Going on the basis of each county in Scotland having their own minors to gain points from - US & Canadian bands can do the same through their associations or perhaps just get a bye so that funds...

Re: Time to boycott the Worlds?

It's certainly a lot of money, perhaps warranted in terms of the actual building costs, sprinkler systems etc. Don't know enough to argue it. Was mentioned on their site.

They could do with...

Re: Predictions for the Next Decade

Predictions:

- Fewer bands as more players gravitate to the better bands.
- Fewer contests as bands struggle to justify attendance/costs.
- New products continue to push/sell as standards barely...

Mostly working on individual aspects, learning to...
