Re: Games cancellations

Now the Scottish and World Championships have both been cancelled.

Richard, I hope Pleasanton is able to happen this year, but I donít know how many bands would be willing to make that the first...

Re: Drone instability, poor blowing or moisture?

Yeah. They stopped making bags maybe 10ish years ago. IIRC, the tanning process used to make the bags was found to be bad for the environment, or something to that effect.

Re: Drone instability, poor blowing or moisture?

I sometimes only get to play every few weeks and my sheep bag stays airtight between plays. Only have to give it a little seasoning once every few months.

Re: Reed vs Chanter

A couple months back, some band mates and I played for the Piano Guys using older Hardie chanters. I think we just used regular reeds - I think I had a Melvin in mine. Came in pretty much bang on at...

Re: Drone instability, poor blowing or moisture?

Are your reed seats threaded? My Dunbars came with them threaded. I play on Kinnaird Evos too (regular strength) and donít have those issues, though Iím playing on sheepskin so moisture issues arenít...

Re: Post Pandemic bag hygiene

Same, though band avoidance is not by my choice, but by the fact that we canít rehearse. I happened to order a new bag as mine is going on 4 yearsí service and want to be ready when it bites the...

Re: Chanter reed starting out really flat

I always blow air through my reed for about a minute. Not enough to get it to sound, but to get it up to temperature and add some moisture (even through I use a ToneProtector cap). I do a similar...

Re: Alternative bagpipe mounts

15 years ago when I was specing out my Dunbars, I was considering the palm nut ivory as an option. I donít remember why I didnít get it (probably cost, but I custom ordered them with hand engraved...

Re: Another "pipe identification assistance" thread

I dunno. Donít Hardies have a flat, 90į cut-in at the shoulder? Also, the beading looks deeper than Iíve seen on other Hardies.

Re: Pipe Case Alternatives

I use a triple trumpet case that allows for personal configuration. I break drones down completely but probably donít have to. Itís a semi-rigid case but definitely strong and sturdy. I donít use the...

Re: burning calories

When tracking that on something like MyFitnessPal, Iíve used ďplaying tromboneĒ as the input because pipes are at least as intensive of a workout as trombone.

Re: White Chanters May Be The Next Big Thing

I vaguely recall a thread from 15 years or so ago about a set of pipes in white poly with black mounts. Essentially the inverse colours of regular pipes.

It included a white chanter and people...

Re: Middle drone issue?

Where in CA are you? A full Ross system might be overkill for the climate.

Have you tried swapping the tenor bottoms and see what happens?

Re: Rubber tubing for mouthpiece

I second the RW.

As for the rubber pipe tips for smoking pipes, donít even bother. Theyíre too small and thin to really be of use for bagpipes. Their purpose is to make it a little easier to...

Re: Deura Reed Problem

The reeds are most assuredly crap.

There is no shortage of competent pipers in SoCal. I recommend you find someone to help you out.

As to your assertion that because you can play other...

Re: Tone Protector

Our band did a bulk order when they first came out and I really like the stability I get from my chanter with it. I wish I had bought a second to use for my solo chanter.

Re: Loose drone reed end cap

Iím guessing itís a Kinnaird or similar reed.

Use a strip of tape on the back of the reed along the nosecone/body junction.
