Re: Why no REALLY light reeds?

I got a Chris Apps Easy G3 reed and I couldn't even get my drones to sound without overblowing it (I was able to exchange for a harder reed) so you CAN get easy reeds.

I don't have a guage but it...

Re: Inaugural Update-D/M suspended for actions

Now this is on the front page of CNN.com with a photo of the DM waving; it's their top story! The band manager is taking a leave of absence! What a shame, the rubbernecking and threats from outsiders...

High hand thumb pain

Since moving to the bagpipes I get a left hand (high) pain in the second joint of my thumb. I do not get it playing the chanter.

I think this is related to hand position and possibly orientation...

Re: What are the top 5 worst bagpiping YouTube vid

Well the woman won easily. She wasn't too bad, the high hand was flat and her timing drifted, but she doesn't deserve to be in the worst category, the guy get's an honorable mention in the top 5...

P.S. He's upgraded from his Pakistani pipes:

FYI - I admire his enthusiasm and personality I don't like him giving advice to buy cheap pipes on ebay...

Re: What are the top 5 worst bagpiping YouTube vid

I think it's awful in every degree, but you mention the big points it's a bit like saying if you ignore how awful it is then it's actually pretty neat.

He's self taught according to his profile....

Re: What are the top 5 worst bagpiping YouTube vid

Well of course, they're bumming him up to sell their crap. It's worth repeating the part where he says he's self taught in a month.

They need an "expert" testimonial.

Re: What are the top 5 worst bagpiping YouTube vid

Les Wilds the "freestyle piper" has escaped your attention thus far. This is the "piper with 25+ years experience" that is quoted by one Pakistani pipe maker on ebay to sell their firewood. They use...

Cargo cult pipe band, just awful and sad. There are many similar videos. It's all marketing for their Pakistani pipes.

Re: OMG! My thing fell off!

P.S. Check you haven't got a bass drone pin going into a tenor drone. That's about the only thing that explains such a gross error in my mind. Does one of your bass drone pins have an awful lot of...

Re: OMG! My thing fell off!

What? No hemp and it's jammed? Not acceptable.

You also suggested using a dremel on this. Please no.

It needs to be reworked correctly, however the pin is going into your sounding chamber...

Re: Help with blowing, stamina & pressure for new piper.

Thanks for the advice.

I got one of my instructors to blow the reed and their verdict was that it was a "really hard" reed. What a relief. After a bit of manipulation it was quite easy to blow. I...
