Look out for "suggestions"

When emailing back and forth about a gig I know if I see the words "a few suggestions" or the priest or bride or brides's Mother "suggests" that there is a 99% chance that some BS is about to...

Re: Amazing Grace Walk-off

I don't know of any history on this walk off practice but when playing at the grave site at the end of the service, I play a bit and then do the walk off bit. It is a way of letting the mourners know...

Re: Playing before a Wedding

Thanks Shawn. I am of course aware of tips like this but you can still be a bit off which can drive you nuts knowing that the recessional was off even if just a bit.

Playing before a Wedding

In the last 20 years I have had very few people request playing outside as guests arrive to the wedding. 99% request a recessional and playing outside after the ceremony.
Many will find this odd but...

Re: Canmore Hybrid - Grommets or Traditional tying-in

I play the new Canmore hybrid with grommets. Best bag I've ever played. The grommets are fantastic. After years of tying in hide bags I am happy with never doing that again. I also use the supplied...

Re: Matching reeds for Dunbars

Dunbar Blackwood pipes sound great with a wide variety of reeds. I prefer Rocket reeds. Both Glass and carbon fiber work great. Kinnaird, Crozier V2 and Selbie are good too.
What it really boils...

Re: Bannatyne Hide Vs Canmore Hybrid

This morning I changed chanter and reed, took out the glass fiber Rockets and put in my carbon fiber version. I tuned and began playing. Still perfect strike in and beautiful cut off. Started and...

Re: Bagpipe Lineage

I think that Center pipes were the basis of the pipes made by Gillanders and McLeod.

Re: How best to remove the chanter?

Everything said here is correct. It's just a matter of being careful and going very slow. I know from experience that a disaster is in the making if you are fast and careless.
I was doing a funeral...

Re: Reeding Atherton lower pitch chanter

Hi Jim,
I am not so much looking for the exact reed but wanting to know what other reeds that Atherton chanter players find to be a good reed for the chanter.

Does anyone play an Atherton, regular or lower pitch, and...

Re: Pipe bag issues...blowpipe angle is bad

The new Canmore Hybrid bag is the best I have played. There is no such thing as a blowpipe grommet angled the wrong way. The Canmore is angled to suit most pipers. I play a small (not extended) bag,...

Every piper who plays in public enough will have at least one bad moment or even a disaster happen. It's all musicians not just pipers.

Re: Refurb of Rocket reeds

I don't know if your reeds were custom made for some set of pipes and it's chanter reed strength or if they are the generic reeds.
Since your tenor drones have a taper adjusting one of the reeds O...

Re: Reed Wrangler mouthpiece

There is no life span associated with this item. My guess is many years even when played for long periods everyday. Because of the design and materials it may last longer than you.

Re: Reed Wrangler mouthpiece

I had one and loved it. I only parted with it because it was on a set of pipes I sold. I have been too lazy to order another one.
Seeing this thread again reminds to to get another one.
