Re: McNulty Hunter Uilleann pipes

My MacNulty Hunter was reeded by Allan Moller, who unfortunately is no longer with us. He did a good job, but I still have to fiddle about with rushes and a bit of tape.

Re: Jazz chord accompaniment

Na Cabarfeidh / Rare Air (and the latre group formed by member Grier Coppins, Taxi Chain) were for more folk rock, than trad folk and I think that it is in that field that John is finding the problem.

Re: Pirate Set?

Skipping back to the original tune mentioned, Bobbie Cuthbertson, I can confirm it was written in honour of a highland dancer. Bobbie Cuthbertson was a leading competitive dancer between the world...

What you describe is very like the continuing Sardinian musical instrument the launeddas as play here

I have heard this oxymoronically described as a...

Re: YT Copyright Claim - Castle Dangerous

That would require us having copyright lawyers, because those running this forum do not have the legal expertise to answer questions on copyright laws that vary from country to country. That is the...

Re: Pipes used in PBS Poldark series

Nothing to do with pipes, but I always smile when I see reference to Poldark in remembering a reviewer of the original 1970s version who pointed out Poldark is an anagram of old krap.

Re: Fagerstrom 7 Keyed NSP electronic chanter

Just looking at the website the d# key is incorrectly placed because it should be on the back of the chanter, not the side.

Re: Scottish smallpipes chanter reed ID

I believe this would be Ann Sessoms of "Heriot and Allan". There is a little information about her and her husband Robbie Greensitt, as background to set of pipes being sold here:-...

Re: Favor PC reeds?

Best reed ever by George Alexander, Isle of Wight (formerly London) who also pioneered the long practice chanter. This reed has been giving me wonderful service since the mid 1970s.

Re: Stolen smallpipes in Tucson, AZ

I believe the seller stated in the listing that he bought the pipes from a pawn shop. This may be someone who legitimately finds under priced items through pawnshops and estate sales and sells them...

Re: Drilling C Nat Hole?

I attempted this once on a border chanter and split it. I would suggest drilling with a hand drill as I found the electric one provided to much power and when the drill bit caught the damage was done...

Re: Takeaway tips from botched gigs?

Beyond the instrument and tunes advice above, do as much as you can to check out the venue. Years ago I played a Burns Night at the officers mess of a Royal Air Force station. The tables for the...

Re: Paid not to play!

In the days when I busked a lot in England I have had this happen twice, once in London and once in Canterbury. Can't remember the amount in London but it was ten pounds in Canterbury. That time it...

Re: Colin Ross RIP

I had the pleasure of trying the set of Scottish smallpipes Colin is holding in that photograph, Jim. They were turned from an antique elephant tusk, and mounted with silver (real ivory and silver...

Re: Colin Ross RIP

I grew up listening to Colin playing with The High Level Ranters, and when I wanted to find out where I could get hold of a set of Northumbrian pipes in the early 1970s it was Colin's wife Ray, then...

Just an update on the Pipers' Gathering....the Northumbrian instructor will be me, and not Andy May, who will be teaching next year.

Re: Northumbrian pipe makers?

I don't know how often they get together but there were some Northumbrian pipers meeting in the DC area. I know one was based there and the other in Annapolis. They would link up with others from PA....

Re: Northumbrian pipe makers?

To my knowledge there are no regular makers of Northumbrian pipes in the the US. John Liestman used to make them but has not for some years. I believe Seth Hamon has been dabbling but I don't know...

I have also seen discussion of how the top players play ornamentation. The great uilleann piper Seamus Ennis was preparing a tutorial book before he died, which was edited and published after his...

Re: adjusting chanter tuning with hemp

I'd say that was a crack repair and that is a heavier twine than hemp. Between that and the reed staple sticking out the top I think it is an auction to steer clear of.....
