Default Re: Bagpipes as carry-on luggage

I just flew down to Washington DC and back last month to play for a Naval Officers' Dining In. I use a hard-sided spinner case that has a zippered section in the top half ( away from the extending handles) I placed a thick, folded towel in first, then the pipes, broken down to section, with a piece of slit "pool noodle" around the chanter There was room in the rest of the case for my uniform, my shave and shower kit and a change of clothes for the ride home. The spinner easily fit into the size-allowed box at the gate. Sporran, spare reeds, my Inverness Cape and some other items went in a small backpack I could stash under the seat, and which I carried the pipes to the event.
