What are the rules of your piping association regarding Grade 4 piobaireachd?

You are in Yucca Valley, in San Bernardino County, California, United States. Your association would be The Western United States Pipe Band Association.

Their rules are: Grade 4 Piobaireachd Submit one (1) Piobaireachd and play the ground and the next numbered section.

The next numbered section would never contain crunluaths. It may contain taorluaths though. I would choose based on your strengths.

The tunes you mentioned, "Duncan MacRae of Kintail's Lament" and "The Old Woman's Lullaby", both seem to be accessible to a beginner. I would consult with your teacher about your tune selection though as he/she may recommend simple tunes well expressed with minimal technique as a criteria for a competition tune for a beginner.
