Alister was more than a pipe major. He was a true leader and my greatest hero.
He was able to draw out the best of everybody, despite how it sometimes effected how that person viewed him in the end. He wasn't 'loved' by all, but everyone respected him and you couldn't argue with the result he produced. He was influential to all he came in contact with. Piping and other. There has always been an instance where I've run into somebody who's had a run in with him and remembers him. He was my instructor, and my mentor - someone I could always count on to tell me the god's honest truth and not sugar coat it; and I would feel honoured by it. We will say goodbye to our instructor and band chieftain this Saturday. If you knew Al, or knew those who played with/for him, please keep his family in your thoughts!
