For reference, here is the article on Pipes|Drums where I first published the photo in question. I had been looking for a bio of Willie Gray. It may even have been Adam who directed me to a site that had a bio. On it was a photo that looked an awful lot like GS McLennan to me. Details and the photo are here:

Adam and Jim, I had also noticed that picture. I've been collecting Scottish military antiques for over twenty years, specifically sporrans, but other pieces of uniform/equipment also. My first thought was that the sporran pictured wasn't an Argyll's pipe major's sporran. Then I noticed the dirk, which is a Gordon Highlanders officer's pattern, also worn by the PM and the DM. The kilt also lacks the Argyll's kilt panel. It does look a lot like GS McLennan, but what I do know with fairly good certainty, is that the man pictured is not wearing an Argyll's uniform, but a variation of a Gordon's uniform. I was not familiar with the exact pattern of sporran worn by the pipers of the 3rd battalion, but I do know that it's not an Argyll style sporran.
I would tend to lean toward the man in the picture being G.S. McLennan. Never the less, Jeannie Campbell's book belongs on the shelf of everyone who has an appreciation for old pipes and the history of pipe makers. If you don't own it, put your hands on a copy as quickly as possible. -Burt |

I've arrived late at this thread, but nice to see there's a new edition out! I'd be interested to know if there's any new info/pictures in the Duncan McDougall section, as he's my pipemaker of choice. I'd had email conversations with Jeannie a few years back about maker's stamps on D McDougall drones, and wondered whether there was any comment in this new edition. I have the first edition - a great resource! But to get number 2 here in NZ will cost me a pretty penny which I'd be prepared to pay if the McDougall section was greatly expanded from the first!

I got this email from Jeannie today : "I've been looking at the Dunsire forum and see that my book has come up again. Someone is asking for sources to buy it in the USA. I have not contacted any shops in the USA yet but if anyone on the forum can suggest possible outlets I would be happy to supply them at trade price." Any idea who could suggest an outlet in the US to Jeannie? Now, if Nanaimo BC was in the USA we would really have something!

You're thinking of Iraq and Afghanistan.
