There is a small but growing group of alternative pipers in Northern California. To encourage the growth of this group we decided to provide our own clinic to be held in San Leandro, a community near San Francisco. Below is the first email notification.
Do you live in the greater San Francisco Bay Area? Do you wish you there was a piper's workshop right here that wouldn't cost and arm and a leg (not to mention the time) to fly to? Registration is now open for the 2012 First Annual Bellows By the Bay Piper'sWeekend! This year’s gathering will be held Friday afternoon, November 16th through Sunday, November 18th at our home in San Leandro, CA. Our instructor for this -- our first and hopefully not last -- year is EJ Jones (http://piperjones.com/). The attached flyer provides all of the details and pricing. Kindly share this email and flyer with anyone else you may know who plays small pipes (mouth blown or bellows) tuned in A and who might be interested in a local workshop with a great instructor. Cheers, Joyce Macpherson Newport If you are interested, private mail me with your email address and I'll forward the flyer to you. Here is the tentative schedule. Friday, 11/16 3-6 Pipe maintenance clinic EJ 6-7 Pot Luck Dinner and Registration 7-9 Meet & Greet jam session Saturday, 11/17 9-9:30 Registration, Continental Breakfast Buffet 9:30-12:30 Workshop 12:30-1:30 lunch break 1:30-4:30 Workshop 2 4:30-6:00 Dinner Break 7:00-10:30 Concert followed by jam session Sunday, 11/18 9:30-10:00 Registration, Continental Breakfast Buffet 10:00-1:00 Workshop 3 1:00-2:00 lunch break 2:00-5:00 Workshop 4 The Friday Maintenance Clinic with EJ is by advanced registration only and an additional $25 fee. The clinic is to: "Get those pesky pipe maintenance issues sorted out before the workshops so everyone (including you) can gain the most out of the workshops." The smallpipe classes are open to all mouth-blown and bellows-blown pipes if tuned in A. I am assuming this is because it is a small clinic with only one instructor. |

This is great news. I have been wanting to attend the east coast gatherings but as you noted flights were too costly. I hope this event is well attended so we can have more in the future.

How strict is the "small pipes in A" aspect of this? I don't have, nor can I play, pipes in A. Have a set in D however.
Would love to attend. JD |

Most workshops I've attended, no make that all such workshops I've attended seperate the A pipes from D pipes because they can't play the tunes together as a general rule. Yes, they could play in harmony, but that's not the way most classes run.

I would love to attend, but I'm still without smallpipes (and still need to teach myself bellows!). Next year though!

I got a reply from one of the organizers and I was correct in my guess. Because EJ is the only instructor they are limiting it to SP in A. I understand that for some of the sessions he will have the group divided into two groups based on ability. Hopefully this will grow to where we can have two instructors. Bill

Hi, everyone. Attendance will be limited to around 20 since we have only one (albeit most excellent!!!) instructor for the weekend. Email piprmacpherson@gmail.com for the full brochure and consider at least mailing in your registration with deposit soon to hold your space.
Cheers! Joyce

I am very happy to share that we have filled the Bellows By the Bay workshop and are now starting a waiting list. Tickets for EJ Jones' concert on Saturday night (11/17) are still available.
If you wish to be put on the wait list or to reserve seats for the concerts, please send an email piprmacpherson@gmail.com . Cheers! Joyce
