Wherever you are don't forget tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo. Tequila shots until you drop. My good friend Seumas Coyne would play the "Mexican Hat Dance" on his pipes. I'll be at Baja Mama's south of Ensenada playing my pipes for all my gringo friends down here. What are your plans?

LOL - the 'holiday' no one knows what it's all about! Just heard a reporter on the radio ask a fellow and he replied, 'Why, it's a celebration of the 5th of May!' If Maximillian and the French army hadn't been so incompetent, the official language of the Mexican govt and upper class today would be French and we would be drinking Chardonnay on Cinco de Mayo instead of cerveza!
I will be playing, but for a wedding!Salut - Wes |

The Mexicans defeated the invading French at the Battle of Pueblo, 5 May 1862 but later lost the war, If I remember correctly. Maximmilan (an Austrian) was installed as Emperor of Mexico by the French sometime later.
We'll have some enchiladas con salsa verde, rijoles negros refritos, etc., tonight. Tomorrow evening I'll be piping for a surprise wedding. That should be something to celebrate ![]() BTW here's what Wikkipedia has about Maximmillian, in part: Maximilian I (Spanish: Maximiliano I; 6 July 1832 – 19 June 1867) was the only monarch of the Second Mexican Empire. After a distinguished career in the Austrian Navy, he was proclaimed Emperor of Mexico on 10 April 1864, with the backing of Napoleon III of France and a group of Mexican monarchists who sought to revive the Mexican monarchy. Many foreign governments, including that of the United States, refused to recognize his administration. This helped to ensure the success of republican forces led by Benito Juárez, and Maximilian was captured and executed in 1867. Though criticised as naïve and indecisive, Maximilian is often praised by historians for his liberal reforms, his genuine desire to help the people of Mexico, his refusal to desert his loyal followers, and his personal bravery during the siege of Querétaro. He has been highly praised even by historians who believe he had no business becoming involved in Mexican affairs. In Mexico, he and his consort are known as Maximiliano and Carlota.

A little off topic, I know, but just curious as to how a wedding could be a surprise.

I'll be playing the procession and recession on Lowland pipes. I think it rates a tune to commemorate it.
