Default A French Hymn, Sung Outside of Notre Dame

Greetings to All,

With the terribly heartbreaking fire at Notre
Dame, and the international news coverage
that was given to it... in one of yesterday's
vid clips... taken at night... that I saw and
heard... a group outside Notre Dame was
singing a (slower) hymn which sounded to
me... as if it would be a grand addition to
musical pieces that we play.

Any else see that portion of that vid?

Any recognize the hymn?

Any else... also think that that music would go
wonderfully well on the pipes?

Shooting from the hip... and in the dark... but I
thought that I should give this... a proper go...

Regards to All,

Pip01

It's a French melody for the Hail Mary/Ave Maria. It fits quite nicely on the bagpipe scale and can easily be learned by ear. I took my Fagerstrom chanter and tuned my B to match the first note they sing. I think I'll be learning it for funerals.
Beautiful job by these two kids:

TwitchyFingers!!

Thank you!! It's the very one!!

I am still partially un-done by an overdose of
international jet lag... and I only half-heard
perhaps a third of it... on a brief section of an
international news vid... but it drew my ear!! :)

And though I thought I had scant chance... of
ever finding it... I thought it worth a go here... :)

And... Voila!! ...Les angles arrivent!! :)

Merci!!... Merci beaucoup!!

Salutations!!... et... Bonne Chance!!

Pip01

Do you happen to know who the composer was? ( It makes it easier to find the sheet music) There are dozens of settings of Je Vous Salue, Marie, as there are dozens of settings of Ave Maria- Most people know the Schubert version, which was originally composed, with other lyrics for a play, or the Gounod setting, but there's also a version by Pietro Mascagni adapted from his intermezzo from Cavlalleria Rusticana, a setting in Italian by Luigi Luzzi and a setting in Latin by Percy Kahn.
( as a tenor, I've had to sing all of them at some time or other).

I haven't the foggiest idea. I had to sort through a bunch of videos just to find this one. Given the melody, I'm assuming it's a French folk melody or traditional tune to which the words were later set. Probably, the originator of the tune is lost to history, but I'm entirely hopeful I'm wrong.
Give me a little time, and I can transpose a pipe arrangement, since I would think it's in public domain. It's fairly easy to pick up by ear, though, if you want to save me the trouble.

I'll get on it, thanks.

after finding another prformance on Youtube, https://youtu.be/1P877lhlTkc, it turns out the composer was Frère Jean-Baptiste de la Sainte-Famille (Jean-Baptiste du Jonchay).

I'm sure I can work out the melody, but I'd like to get the full arrangement for my choir.

further resarch reveals the composer is a Carmelite Monk, currently living in a monastery (convent) in Senegal. He was born in 1974 in Alsace, started out as a violinist, and was inspired to compose music through his friendship with a Franciscan. He's still very much alive and active, and his music can be acquired through Editions du Carmel. So, NOT in the public domain.

Well, that saves me some trouble. Still, it's easy enough to pick up by ear.
