Hi Paul,

Yes, the right hand thumb hole should be possible on any (most?) SSP chanters. On an A chanter it would play C-nat. On a D chanter it would play F-nat and on a C chanter it would play D#/Eb etc.

I meant to add two things to my previous post:
  • Drones tuned to E and B will emphasize the tonality of E, not B. Hence encouraging B and F# drones to emphasize a tune in B-minor.
  • Secondly, for anyone waffling on whether or not to have a lower thumbhole drilled (for C-natural, or other minor-third options), take comfort in knowing it can easily be covered up with a piece of tuning tape, should you not need it for a stretch of time.
(And Mike, I likewise look forward to meeting you and talking theory at the Piper's Rendezvous, if not sooner!)

Just use the A drones, that's its heritage and the resolution when it gets to the A bits are cool . It just works.
