I do check the site once in a while for a good set of used pipes. 99 times out of 100 (possibly 999 times out of 1,000) the sets are clearly of the middle eastern variety. However, I am not sure about this one...it appears to be a decently maintained set, and it doesn't have the Royal Stewart bag cover, or white mouthpiece on the blowpipe of most postings. Are these of any known origin?

Yeah, I saw this set and thought the same - they look like they may be a decent set... I couldn't positively identify the maker from these photos, though...

I looked at the blowpipe and thought “who makes the blowpipe with a “teeth groove”? Have seen it before. But where?
On better inspection I don’t think the blowpipe is the original as the projecting mount is different. The case says 1960’s era to me. All in all, not a bad set to put a bid in on. I don’t see anything that says Middle Eastern maker to me. I am NOT a Bagpipe expert by any means though! Jenni

The only red flag I see is the bottle of “Bagtight” which, if I’m not mistaken, is the “seasoning” that comes with MIME pipes.

They look like a well made set to me, in very good condition. The “teeth groove” is what happens over the years when a piper clamps too hard on the blowpipe.

Not sure what MIME means, but guessing "made in middle east".
As far as Bagtight, it has nothing to do with where pipes are made, but everything to do with the bag to which the sticks are tied. In this case, the bag looks like it might be an L&M. I had an L&M tied to 1930 Lawries, and used Bagtight. I've a tooth groove in my blowpipe, created through use by me, not carved by the maker. This set could be a real find. |

Cool. Keep us informed if someone on here buys them. Bag looks better than most of the questionable sets I've seen, even if just that little view of it.

Bidding has increased three-fold since my original post, and alas, I cannot cross the border to drive to London, ON to pick up, so no new toy for me. However, it appears someone will get a good set, and a good charity will make what I guess will be more than expected on the item. Win win.

Yesterday...the listing included the option to ship to Canada and the United States. Today...pick up only.
