Default Older Naill - Orange Sole

I've recently been given an older Naill Solo chanter to try out.
I'd like to know how old it is and I'm wondering if its "orange" sole
might give an indication of its age ie would this type of imitation ivory
have been used in a particular era. Would any of you have any insight?

Thanks

Since the Naill onset in late 1970's....I don't think I've ever seen pumpkin Naill mounts.

Are there?

Got a Naill chanter with a 2 1/2" plastic sole about a year ago with an older set of Henderson pipes. Emailed Naill a picture of ABW base and the top with the request for year and pitch. Got a response that possibly it was a 1989-95 chanter pitched to 476.

Yup. Naill was founded in 1976. My first set was a late-80s Naill, fully-mounted in catalin, which is now pumpkin-orange. They had stopped using the material by the mid-90s.

I'd bet if the original poster set pics to Naill, they could accurately date the chanter.

Have a lovely set of pumpkin mount Naills...circa 1989 I believe...sweetest sounding Pipes out of several sets I own...the chanters from that era are the ones you want...prized by top players as well.
