Default Any Key of A practice chanters aside from the ES Chanter?

I'm hoping to find a practice chanter in the Key of A that I can actually afford. Anyone know of one other than the ES chanter?

Perhaps there is a 3d printed one I can have made?

I've never seen one but Cowal are advertised as 440 Hz.

Awesome sauce, less than half the cost!

Thanks!

Most standard practice chanters will play in A right off the bat with the right reed. MacCallum, Hardie and Warnock certainly do for me with Warnock reeds.

Most Ďlongí PCs will be pretty close to A440, so with a little bit of trimming of the reed and maybe some wax you should be able to get there.

My only experience with getting a normal long practice chanter down to 440 without severely underblowing a normal reed required a harder blowing pc reed, harder than I cared to play.

Itís worth a shot as pc reeds are cheaper, but I imagine to get down to A reliably with a normal blowing, soft pc reed would require a pc with the holes just a wee bit further down, purpose built.

I personally prefer a pretty hard-blowing PC, otherwise I always overblow itóbut to each his own of course.

I have a Cowal, never tried to put it at 440 even though it's supposed to be able to go there. Perhaps I'll give it a try.
It's a gorgeous PC, and my favourite for travel since it's short, but with long finger spacing. Very light too, and the tone is spot on...
If it had an internal water trap, like my Walsh, then perhaps perfection would be achieved....

A couple years ago I was at a workshop EJ Jones did and he had A chanters for everyone. I don't know if that's something he normally sells, but if I was in the market for one I'd email him and ask if he had any for sale.

Most 440 chanters are Bb, not A.

My "practice chanter" is a Cushing A SSP chanter for which Mark Cushing kindly made a PC top. I used it with a border pipeset and as my practice chanter.

You might consider an inexpensive SSP chanter for your PC.
