Default Corran Halls and All

So we went to Oban
And with Torquil at the door
Went into the Corran Halls
To hear some class ceol mor

I took a seat and in they came
Minutes they had four
To settle in and tune a drone
And not a second more

Caressing music very old
They wandered round the floor
Three judges in the corner
Read and kept the score

I left the hall to hear some Gold
In the foyer there I stirred
A 'Blind Piper's Obstinacy'
The best I think I've heard

The theatre seats much softer here
I settled down to stay
Sarah Muir finished the Gold event
And also made my day

Meal and Piobaireachd over
The big ceol beag held sway
Names like Stuart Liddell
Grabbed their pipes to play

Two tunes of each, a mighty task
Opponents to be trounced
And it was close to midnight
When the winner was announced

Ten hours passed and Oban Bay
Saw many pipers gather
Like all the greats before them
To lead the Chieftains hither

And at the Games Field we could hear
A growing bombinate
And then 'The Argyllshire Gathering'
As they marched in through the gate

More ceol beag in earnest now
In large adjacent field
Rain pattered on the platforms there
But the pipers didn't yield

As I stood by platform A
Two judges left their tent
And with the piping steward
At the platform bent

They curled their fingers at the base
Hands formed into a cup
They heaved but couldn't budge it
Until Chris Armstrong then woke up

He shot out from the judges tent
To lift the nearest side
He turned the platform like a toy
And they then went back inside

The sun came out then went back in
When the turn was Jenny Hazzard's
In drizzle with dog upon its leash
Colin M just shrugged his shoulders

The time then came to leave the field
And head off to Lochaber
Where polished Axes there await
For those without disaster
