If somebody gives a bit of advice, keep in mind they took the trouble to do that because they care about the band, they care about you, and they want you to succeed.

First, let me say thank you all for sharing your perspectives and pointers! They are all greatly appreciated.If I were to distill the pointers offered here, I'd say that they boil down to: being humble, having fun, and to never stop learning!
